guys, girls, viper and aly

looking at getting a freeview box but as there is so many about hard to choose. I know most will give you the usual core channels but would want dave and the discovery/history channels aswell if possible.

So need recommendations, thanks

Buy absolutely any freeview box. They all have exactly the same software, and will all include Dave and the history channel. I think you only get Discovery if you go to Sky.

I've got a Humax HDR-FOXT2, it's HD and has a 500GB hard drive for recording

Not cheap, but I'm pretty sure they're the best on the market

You don't get Discovery or History channels on Freeview, these are the channels you get ... http://www.freeview.co.uk/Channels

If you're not looking to spend big or get HD, they all do pretty much the same thing

That's true but for standard viewing, you can get away with buying a box for £15, if you want the Freeview HD you need to spend more, but if you spend £15 or £40 on a receiver alone, you're gonna be getting exactly the same channels from either box.

Recording boxes would start from about £60, I think.

only way to get discovery is with free sat . If you already have a sky dish there is a forum on the net that tells you what you need to set it up to get quite alot of channels for free.

But if your after a cheap and cheerful free view box then aldi have some in at the mo for 5 quid and there pretty good.

Yeah, basically there are 3 variations of Freeview Boxes

Freeview - Just a receiver, usually cheap, connect via scart

Freeview+ - Receiver and recorder, mid range, connect via scart, hard drives vary

Freeview HD -Receiver only but with added HD channels (BBC HD, BBC1 HD, ITV HD and 4 HD), highest priced but usually better units, connect via HDMI

and then there's the HD+ boxes which are HD and recordable

looking at that Nick I think freeview+ will probably be bestbet then. Since all the channels are the same anyway.

may look into that freesat thing if you can get discovery and history channels foc

I need to get a new 1 for my bedroom as my current 1 is slowly starting to lose all channels.

Cheers for the heads-up on the different types, but a standard box will suffice.
