right so yesterday i was driving and the tempature usually sits on halfway but then it crept up to 3/4 in which case the fan came on... so i checked my coolant and it was basically empty so i filled up went for a drive and it was empy again so i filled it up again and took it for a spin and once again...
did the obvious checked my oil cap and there was no maybe ... but oil slightly brown but only a little bit, it was quite textured though but i then wiped this and has not shown up anymore...
there is no white smoke out my exhaust and also no sign of a leak,
any suggestions...?

checked for leak no visible leak, i may stick some cardboard there over night for a more precise test, also the oil on the dipstick is fine.. is that a good sign?

I had exact same problem, but it was my radiator leaking. I used some of that radiator stuff from Halfords and it's fixed it for now.

did you notice a leak at all? because im losing the coolant so fast that id expect to see the actualy leak?is it worth taking it to a mechanic and hopefully get a free compression test?

Don`t use the radiator stuff,it blocks your heater matrix.Get the radiator pressure tested for leaks. If that`s ok then take the rad cap off & sniff the coolant if it smells of petrol then the hg has gone.:drink:
