172= approx 156bhp/ton

vts= 130bhp/ton.

In a drag race its close in the first two gears or so, after that the Clio will creep away, and past 100 the clio will comfortably have the legs.

clio's bore the hell out of me. the sport models seem to look almost identical to the shitty 1.2 pov spec ones. the driving position feels like you're going to fall out the window and its just about everyones choice of car to move onto from a saxo.

Having both a cliosport and my track car 'R' I'd say my Clio will get torn apart.

Having said that I'd take the Clio over an S if it was my only car and wanted the luxurys and the performance,

when i first started the planning/colecting, the vtr turbo was cheaper for me to insure then a standard vts...so just went with it tbh

supercharge the clio ;) that'll be a track weapon, mines getting all stripped out etc in next week, once that and cage are in, diff'd box and shafts and i can play on track too :D

It all depends on how big your wallet is what you plan to do with them.

If kept standard I'd go Clio 1*2 all the way. Although the up keep can be harsh with belt changes, parts, etc, your probably likely to only change major parts once. Clios are safer and far more refined with toys, but they are still French so are don't expect it all to work and things to go wrong.

If your modding and on a budget, I'd go VTS all the way. They have to be one of the cheapest cars to buy and mod to a respectable output on the Market. Although if you crash the tin foil body will collapse and make you a sardine.

if your going for comfort and power id get the 172, but if you not bovard about bein comfy and hearing urself think id get the vts and have you not fort about a gti-6? ive got a vts and driven a 172 i dont know which is quicker because ive had a few plays with 172s and 182s in my vts and ive won sum and lost some but the vts feels quicker feels more like a toy and more fun to drive. but after ownin my forth saxo now. im not going to ever get another french car again as there not the best quality car the just cheap to run, cheap to mod and the fun for the first couple of years of driving

If it's gonna be tight, be the Saxo. If you can afford the Clio it's basically the same car with more comfort, better build and a better image.

Start with a better base. It will take at least;

-421
-Straight through decat exhaust
-Induction kit

Before a VTS is any quicker if at all than a Clio or Equiv 2.0 Sport hatch. Also finding a decent VTS that hasn't been raped will be EXTREMELY hard. Most are in bad nik.


That said, as others have said... Clio's will cost alot more to maintain should the worst happen which it will because it's French.

But generally, if you can afford it, the Clio.

Well I drive a 106 gti and all I ever experience from it is the 'feel of fun'. I have never been in a car that has come anywhere close to the fun factor that it has and its only mildly modded. (I am yet to experience kit car lol).

Out of the box, the clio is the better choice, as 2.0 in a lightweightish shell is always a good combination...but then again its an ugly mother! Both are french, both have problems. Too many pros and cons for each to list!

5th gear did a review (172 v saxo vts) some years ago and the 172 had it on the straight(not by much) and the saxo had it on the corners (not by much) from what I remember. Only real comparison can from those who have owned and modded both!

I would rather spend 5k on a supercharged 182 than 5k on a c20let arguably more unreliable than a rovers headgasket

I thought the seat position on the Saxo was normal, pedals were a bit close which can get a bit annoying but you get used to it

When I test drove the 182 I thought the seat height adjust was broken because I put it on the lowest setting and was still jacked up :geek:

There are loads of kits to pick from TB's to superchargers and all run mint. There are some prime examples out there such as Craig's ph1 yellow 172 supercharger.

The clio RS is more grown up, a better spec, more power but a little more lardy. Its not got the same steering feel but its still a very capable car and better as an everyday hack. You sit reasonably high but not excessive. The PH1 seats are fantastic and the pedal position good. Performance parts price wise are a muchness of muchness, some cheaper some more expensive. Its not directly comparable as there are two very different routes to go with both cars mentioned.

Yes, it is stated as a warranty that could last a lifetime (or 100k).

Some dealers are even offering the warranty to the 2nd owner.

But then that still brings me back to my point about them having faith in there cars that they offer such a warranty in the 1st place.

Alot of owners will hold onto the cars knowing that if anything breaks (within reason) then it will be fixed free of charge.
