Right the plan is to update this as and when i get time, just to keep track of where im going with it and just so people can have a look. Bought the car in october last year completely 100% standard, even down to the aerial ;) http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Vtsdecember-febuary20.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Vtsdecember-febuary18internet.jpg . Then i did a few little bits, the grille was tatty so bought a different one, and got rid of that aerial pretty quickly! New number plates as the ones on there had a funny font and were screwed on . A few weeks later i ordered 4 new shocks and some 50mm springs, they went on the day after they arrived, then i gave it a good clean, polish etc. http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsJanuaryinternet.jpg

Next i had an exhaust made by Powerflow in exeter, im aware of peoples opinions on them but thats up to them, this place was the original Powerflow and ive seen a fair few exhausts come from here, always good quality. More than happy with mine in every way. Around this time i tinted my lights and fogs, removed the 16v badges, bought a simota enclosed induction kit and raceland manifold, and sorted my twin fan setup.... http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsMay5internet.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsMarch14internet-1.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsMarch47.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsMarch31.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsMarch44.jpg

Around that time i had a few things that were annoying me, my alternator packed up so bought a new one (and got a free coffee mug...winning!). And the idle was all over the place, turned out to be the throttle body, quick strip down and clean and its been all good since, wheels needed refurbing so i was on the lookout for some steelies, then i came across these 205's cheap so i gave them a quick lick of paint and quite liked them for temporary wheels! http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsMarch12.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Vtsmarch29internet.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Vtsmarch25internet.jpg

After a while i decided i needed a bit more power so after a fair bit of research and deciding what my plans were i decided to buy some of these .... http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Catcams708s.jpg then we fitted them, before...http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Camsandrockercoverpaintingjuly20117.jpg and after....http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Camsandrockercoverpaintingjuly2011.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Camsandrockercoverpaintingjuly20112.jpg Also gave my rocker covers a lick of paint whilst they were off, was going to polish them but thought this would be better http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Camsandrockercoverpaintingjuly20113.jpg

I thought the temps were getting towards the fan kicking in a lot quicker sat still in traffic since the manifold and induction kit were fitted, must be something to do with where the filter sits in the enclosed bit, its not very far away from the manifold, its fine once moving though, so i decided to go down the route of green cotton filter with cold air feed in standard airbox, doesnt seem to have dampened performance and it is better in traffic. Also gave the engine bay a good clean because it seems like that had been neglected slightly, came up quite well actually. http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Newoldfiltersetup3-1.jpg http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Newoldfiltersetup.jpg

Thanks a lot, it means a lot when people approve of what you've done aswel. Yeah its very hard to keep clean though! OCD setting in i think haha. Yeah they were just temporary wheels that came up at the right price. Yeah the cams have given fairly good gains, im running unmapped at the moment though as the ultimate goal is itb's but keep the car looking fairly standard and slowly cleaner!

Got a couple things done recently, the main one being the gearbox i bought from someone who lives near me selling a gmc built box with quaife atb diff. Anyway heres some pics of whats been done. Mk1 rear lights and de-wipered, i actually prefer the mk2 lights, but the white bit seems to contrast too much with the dark paint imo, never used my rear wiper so off it came for a bit of a cleaner look.... http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/VtsSeptembermk1rearlightsandde-wiper4internet.jpg Started on my winter wheels because im running out of time now! http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/vtsgunmetalwheels2.jpg And the main thing, the gearbox. Picked it up looking like this. http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/vtsseptemberfittinggmcboxquaifediff.jpg Spent a while cleaning it and painting it and ended up with this http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/vtsseptemberfittinggmcboxquaifediff10.jpg Old box out, as you can see the clutch is fairly new, this is because i fitted it last month. http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/vtsseptemberfittinggmcboxquaifediff11.jpg Both boxes side by side http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/vtsseptemberfittinggmcboxquaifediff12.jpg And new box in http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/vtsseptemberfittinggmcboxquaifediff13.jpg And that is where i am up to at the moment, keeping an eye out for some sort of itb setup now, not sure which to go for.

Got a small update as ive managed to get a few things done lately, finally bought some wind deflectors and finished my other wheels, only taken about 4 months to pull my finger out lol, and i wasnt sure about going down this route but ive semi stripped it at the moment, not sure how wild im going to go but ill decide once i get hold of a couple other bits for the interior! Yeah i have thought of that before now, not so keen on the looks and sound of some of the more popular exhausts on saxos though, which was one of reasons having one made, saying that im supposed to be heading down for a rr session towards the end of the month so i should be able to see if the exhaust is holding it back, if it is i'll have to look into something else.

A couple little things that are annoying me at the moment, whats people's opinions on the grey wheels? They were for the winter but im not sure whether to leave them on for good, or maybe some different wheels altogether? . Also since all the weight has come out of the back its naturally sitting a bit higher, not sure whether to go a tiny bit lower on the back again so its the same as before or leave it?

Very impressed with this car, very good sutble appearence and a very healthy spec! A secret weapon, perfect saxo imo done to perfection!
Only critism is the buckets REALLY let the car down. You have a quality spec that ha no corners cut but then you have some cheap horrible looking buckets and harnesses :( dont ruin your car please those buckets make it look more mcy 's racer now!
If you want some buckets with interior an dont want to spend the earth look at the Cobra Suzuka's and get some 3" 4 point black harnesses. If you are going to fully strip the interior to a high standard then get some Cobra Evolutions with the same harnesses.

Thanks for the feedback guys, havent really got much done lately as im trying to sort out bits and bobs for getting some r1 throttle bodies to fit on etc, did come home to a completely wet footwell the other day though, never happened before so i was a bit confused. Long story short i got pissed off and started to take the sunroof out, fairly easy to do actually just time consuming. Had started to scab slightly in the corners by the drainage holes so bit of a clean up and some paint, resealed the sunroof and touch wood its been okay :) . Before (can just see the scabbing in the corner) http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Sunroofout.jpg And ready to go back in! http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Sunroofout2.jpg Seems to have worked! Weather was okay yesterday so gave the car a good clean inside and out and started to try and make a bit more progress underneath, its getting there slowly! http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Torsionbarcleaning-1.jpg

Yeah timing is at standard marks at the moment, i was going to have a play around with it but as ill be going standalone/throttle bodies of some description, ive just left it as it as for the time being. The idle is pretty lumpy but i think its cut out maybe two/three times in a few months so its not bad at all. There is a noticeable difference, just nothing drastic as im obviously not getting the full potential out of them. Unfortunatly ive just had to tax and mot it, and ive got insurance due next week so everythings on hold for a minute! Thanks for the interest :)

Small update as of yesterday, Got some proper total 75w80 oil in my gearbox, personally i think it seems a bit smoother, easier to change etc than the el cheapo stuff i threw in at first. Also got my powerflex lower mount in the post, so ive fitted that, i can now see why people recommend these so much! Standard one had a slight crack in the rubber and was starting to perish so i dont think that helped matters, may have also sorted a steering wheel as of this weekend and possibly some 266mm brakes! Fingers crossed! Before http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Powerflexgearboxmountnovember112-1.jpg And after http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Powerflexgearboxmountnovember115.jpg I honestly think this could be one of the best mods you can do for the money, vibrations arent bad either.

No problem, it was a while ago so I'm not sure I can remember bolt sizes etc, But will pm you, to be honest it's all fairly self explanatory once you remove the roof lining.

Hi, thanks a lot :) It's getting there at least! Unfortunately it does slightly, probably not helped by the fact I live in a fairly large valley, once I get out of town its pretty good to be honest, only gets a bit rubbish in some areas briefly.

Hi, I'm not sure about the difference compared to standard piping because I had a completely standard car, then I switched to the simota, and now I'm using the panel filter and feed. Main reason for using the cold air feed was the standard piping looks unnecessarily complex, and the ducting has a larger bore, so in theory; less bends etc/bigger bore = better flow. I bought the filter and ducting from Kam racing, iirc the ducting was about 6-7 quid. It's nothing special but seems to work well. :y:
Looking rather tidy mate! keep up the work,

Not done much for a while but decided to pull me finger out the last week or so, its been bugging me that my inner wings were getting a bit crusty, and i had to weld a plate under the ecu when i bought it, also wanted to re do my earths throughout the car. so i've wanted to tidy it up a bit for a while. Anyway i'll let the pics do the talking. Took way too many so i'll just do a few. And before anyone mentions the clips still in the wings, i did remove them and then put them back in after the first coat.
It was looking like this when i was stripping it (Can see the scabby bits)

Minor update, took advantage of the good weather we've had here, fitted the magnex and gave her a good clean inside and out! Also you can't really tell but the interior is completely back in and has been for a while.
Quick shot of the magnex http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/My%20saxo%20vts/Magnexfeb12andclean4.jpg

Minor update really, it's always annoyed me that i've got a grey carpet when the later cars have black. So finally pulled my finger out and swapped them over. Looks miles better in person even though the pictures don't show the difference very well.

Bit of an update I guess...
The car has been returned to standard mechanically, bar the brakes, a stainless cat back exhaust and green cotton filter. The exterior remains the same. I have put the car up for sale so we'll see how that goes, its time to move on i think, i fancy something a bit newer with less miles, and another bike too :)

Thanks :) Nah its not the standard one, its a Powerflow by the looks of things. Its actually quite a good one, when the previous owner said about it i thought it was going to be a right mess. Not sure whether its staying yet though.
Its no-where near the rear arm either its just the angle of the picture. I see what you mean though looking at the photo now!

Nah no worries, sold it for £1500. Didn't have any of the more expensive parts on though.
I know what you mean, i miss mine a bit already! It's becoming harder to find good ones as well!
Nice 180!

Thanks, i love yours! I wanted my wheels done a similar colour but i'm undecided yet. I'm just not a massive fan of silver wheels.
Haha externally i just want the SP grilles. The arches/morettes etc i used to like but have gone off them slightly so we'll see.
To be honest i don't think theres much in it, maybe the saxo was ever so slightly quicker but i'm not sure whether thats down to the fact the saxo was a lot more raw so just felt it.
This has got an awful halfords looking induction kit just sat in the airbox at the moment ( Needs to go asap, thinking of a simota one as thats what i had on the vts ) which probably isnt helping things.
Slowly falling in love with it as i do little bits though :)
Do you still enjoy yours or regret selling the vts?

Thanks mate haha, wish I could say the same sometimes lol!
I have my days tbh with you mate and tonight is one of them. I don't regret selling the VTS so much when I'm sitting in a comfortable nice looking place with climate control, leather & suede and performance wise hardly anything in it. I think my old VTS was as quick as mine maybe a little quicker but could be placebo effect due to rawness. On track after the upgrades on the VTS I'd say it would nail the 180. But the 180 is pretty much stock, certainly on stock suspension and that makes a huge difference to the car when it's done!
Mod for mod, or stock vs stock 180 would reign supreme.
We have a love hate relationship, similar to that of my first car (VTR).
Unfortunately mine is at the age when things need replacing (wear and tear stuff) but it seems to do it all at fucking once LOL.
SP stuff is alright but I hate the grilles, love my morrettes :)
Defo get shot of the halfrauds shiz, I hate it when 180 owners leave the stock bottom half of the induction system in because they cba to take it out lol
Keep her plain and simple! It's refreshing to see one stock stock...bar your splitter :)

Haha always get with cars like that at some point, they all have problems at some point!
Yeah totally agree, the vts would have been better on a track but thats not really what this car is about, theres too many things like the auto lights/wipers etc that add too much weight really.
Haha funny how i prefer the grilles, but you prefer the lights. And you have it all lol.
Yeah the naff induction kit will be gone when i do the big service on it, absolutely hate it! Not planning anything too drastic so should be pretty plain and simple, subtlety is better tbh :)
Hope you get yours sorted, whats wrong with it?

-AP Coilovers/New top mounts/droplinks (although the rear isnt lowered yet still waiting on parts then drop the front a little more)
-Janspeed Cat Back

Lol runabout 180 and keeping a Cooper S more money than sense. 180's aren't cheap to run or maintain they are grp17 insurance which is gay.
I get just over 30mpg combined and most struggle to get 28 ^^. A decent one will be 2.5-3.5k ish.
Nah 1k is too much for me to spend on an exhaust for this kinda been there done that on my last one, although that was on a Scorpion & decat prefer it to my Janspeed for sound & looks if I'm honest. I might try something different in the near future but that's on lock down encase my friend (not you) decides to steal my idea an ASW it about ha.
I like the Typhoon blue piping but that's about it lol - good for hovering up water though I'd imagine even with the sock. I have had the Simota on my old 180 in 05 & my current :) I notice a great improvement on throttle response and I've even modified my stock setup with a direct air feed.
I reckon you will be putting out 165+ with Simota & Janspeed if you have a goodn' :) Defo get it rr'd -
PS if you like for like mod the 180 it would beat the VTS on track IMO. My old one was on rails just with the Eibach pro springs & a stock 180 is defo quicker on straights than my old VTS with breathing mods.
PPS - remap greatly improves the 180 btw my old one was awesome, you should look in to it ;) I'm defo getting my new one done!

Haha well i'm very happy with my Janspeed so you don't have to worry about that :y: I'm surprised you'd want to change considering you already have one, i could probably understand a bit more if you still had the standard system?
I tend to get around 28-29 mpg but that is mostly town driving so i'm not surprised, as you've said insurance isnt cheap and nor is the tax.
I'm not so keen on the blue piping and the filter location did put me off big time. Yeah it has definitely improved throttle response and i guess we'll be seeing what kind of power the car makes after the weekend lol.
A remap is on the cards depending on what the outcome of this rolling road day is haha. Finding a decent place to do it in the southwest however is another issue altogether :(

Yes i did mate. Made 168 bang on. Im happy with that as it is as the rollers i went to are known for their "conservative" readings. A couple of clio 182's there and the "best" one also made 168 too.
Either way...goes well enough on the road so im happy :)

I had a play with a Silver 172 on the way to Lakeside shopping center the other night - nothing major but enough to tell me my car had the legs. I do love ClioRS's but the fan boys put me off them. They think they are in a league of their own and dismiss the 180's that is until they get one without a fanny behind the wheel and realise there ain't shit in it.
Mine is sweet just hit 48k though wahhhhhhhh -still silly clean, even in this weather.

If you don't feel a difference after a few miles I'd take it back or you're not driving it properly lol. Literally, the generic map I had on my last was awesome made a HUGE difference in the way the car responded, it was my first mapped car and since I've had my cars mapped bar my old vts.
They make max power near red and as per any high strung n/a need their nuts ringing.
If you don't plan on removing the complete stock intake for a decent kit don't bother, I've seen many fags remove the top part of their airbox and shove a cone in lid off, looks shit and the stock setup will be better.
In your case I'd go for lowering, stock silver alloys look fresh. As do gun metal / Ford Graphite grey and Renault 182 alloys grey.

I would have thought you'd be able to feel a decent difference they're supposed to respond well to a good map.
Mines quite low to be honest i cant remember what we set the rear at but i've still got to wind the front down a little more once it drys up a bit.
Haha upto you mate, i'd leave it for a while and just enjoy driving it for a bit, theres no rush is there.

These things look a million times better with the SP arches on! Without, they look so bland!
Nice looking car! Always fancied one, the only thing letting them down for me, was the lack of oomph for the size of the engine.. Same with the 206 GTi.. The only thing i feel lets them down!
Other than that, awesome car, and you are just making it look better and better

Still, the 1st one was a GTi, known as the GTi to everyone, I'm sure owners of 180's don't forget to say its a 180..

Cheers matey :) To be fair its not a stupidly fast car (obviously) but its just about identical to most 182's and Type R's. Lot's of people bitch and say they're not but they are are very similar performance out on the road unless you get a rubbish one.
Im in the process of refurbing some morrettes but im undecided on how they will look tbh.

Firstly, im sure it will be anyway but could a mod please move this to the correct section :)
So i havent updated this in a long time!
Few things have happened since the last update....mainly maintenance but will update anyway.
Sp arches came off, fell out of love with them quickly, the car now runs 4mm spacers all round too. Spent some more time on the paintwork etc too and improving small areas around the car.
Anyway some pictures, some of this happened around christmas time.

Nightmare of a job to be honest, not helped by the fact i went to fit this....
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/206%20GTi%20180/2013-12-23165754_zpsb7d10af6.jpg
And the captive nut was no longer so captive :(
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/206%20GTi%20180/2013-12-23180035_zps815027b2.jpg
Anyway, at that point i did the following. New,
-Cambelt
-Tensioners
-Waterpump
-Engine mount
-Coolant
-Oil
-Gearbox oil
-Filters
-Plugs
-Air filter cleaned and oiled
-4x Hankook ventus v12 evo tyres
-General inspection of the underside/suspension etc
So theres me thinking it will all be good for a while, about a month later my release bearing starting making the worst noise :( so next job....
As you can see, clutch wasnt in the best condition once i got a look at it anyway! And the release bearing was rough as hell.

Gave the gearbox a nice clean up and replaced the tophat (Input shaft sleeve) and fitted my nice new clutch
http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt319/Danyzf/206%20GTi%20180/2014-02-13125103_zps10addf1a.jpg

Made me realise how bad my clutch had steadily become after driving with the new one!
So at this point i fitted new
-LUK clutch kit
-Tophat
-Fresh fluid
-Gearbox oil
All good then! Decided last week i was going to replace the trailing arm bearings as my axle was still in good shape, and i'd rather spend the £50 on nice new bearings with loads of fresh grease fitted by myself than wait for my axle to die one day and fork out £300+ for a new one.
Couple pics.

No pics of reassembly unfortunately because my phone died :(
So this time i fitted new,
-Genuine inner and outer bearings on both sides
-Seals
-ARB end cap screws
-Torsion bar bolts
Its not all been maintenance though, i managed to do a couple of little bits.
Cleaned the gutters out and painted my manky faded grey strips black
