say your mate was driving...wheres the proof he wasnt? asuming police wasnt involved anyway?

i didnt know you had to be 25 but i do know you have to check that you are covered to drive anyones car as some insurance companies dont tell you unless you state you want to, but back to it i wouldnt put it on your mate i would just accept that you made a mistake and it cost you, it would just be like driving your own car and not declaring a mod or something like that.

more sensible idea and i respect some people dont want to break the law but, driving without insurance... ? can get a hefty punishment for that? id see how much it is to fix the cars yourself... better than gonig through claims etc... and with the chance of points/fine ?

+1. if they know its you driving youll either get a ban or loads of points and a massive fine. plus ur insurance in the future will go up alot! if you can get away with it say your mate was driving

Firstly, have you actually spoken to your insurance company and checked you specifically are not covered? Some companies do cover at 21 but its not obvious which do or don't. Check the small print on your insurance.

If it doesn't you will proably get taken to court. Argue your case, it was an honest mistake, you believed you were covered. You're still gonna get boned, the question is how badly.

He will probably have to claim off his own insurance.

How long have you been driving?

I thought everyone knew that you had to be 25 with 99.9% of companies!!

Fix the car yourself but if it does come though court say you thought you were covered Nd they will be more lenient

I thought it was that you could drive others cars with permission and it only covered third party damage..

If it doubt read YOUR small print!

In the eyes of the law you were driving uninsured, even if you had a good reason! Ignorance is not a defense!

pay the damages in cash, if the police were involved expect 6 points and a big fine, and a massive jump in insurance prices when u renew

or say ur mate was driving if hell go along with it and give him the difference in his increase for insurance!

Although not strictly legit say to the owner of the other car to get a quote for the damage & you`ll pay for the repairs.

thats perfectly legal, driving without the insurance is the illegal bit,

most people go through insurance now so they can grab the whiplash moniez aswell

True mate I agree & in this case provided knowone was injured I wouldn`t of told the insurance company & counted myself lucky. Then paid for the repairs.:drink:

this tbh

your supposed to read and understand your policy before your drive ANY car

9/10 insurers now DONT offer cover to drive any other car unless you ask for it, it will state what your covered for in the box...lots often state what your not covered for

just go to the bloke and say look mate, it would appear im not covered on that car after looking at the policy

ill pay for the damage to your car, as id rather not get 6 points for having no insurance, and if the police are involved you wont get a pay out as there's is no cover to claim off, it also benefits you from a sales point of view as your car will not be registered on the insurance crash register
