(Saxo 1.0i R plate)

Think my Saxo has a terminal problem,

I was at some traffic lights on a hill a few weeks ago, when as I pulled away the car chugged a little as I moved foward. Since this happened although it starts and drives 'fine' it is definately down on power and when idling the whole car shakes, clutch down or not, makes no difference.

Its not making any unusual sound however this is the pig - I have taken off each ignition lead to the spark plugs with the engine running and the second cylinder from the left makes no change in engine tone when the lead is removed. I have changed the spark plug for a new one I had kicking round in the garage, this has made no difference. The plug I removed was covered in black soot. Although there is a spark coming from the lead, I havent tried swapping the leads over yet.

My Question -

Could this be a fauly coil/distrubiter?

Or is it likely to be Knackered valve/piston?

Any can you think of any other test I can do?

Shame really was a very reliable, nice to drive car.

Any help would be apprieciated. Thanks.

Hi mate,

Thanks for your input, I have just swapped the leads over and still the same, so I think its going to be mechanical rather than electrical, there is a slight ticking noise coming from the engine so I'm thinking its a valve thats died.

No smoke though. MOT runs out next month so I think I just scrap it.

Cheers, T

So swapping the coil pack over with a mates car made no difference unfortunately.

I am in last chance saloon here - mabe a blocked injector? Does anyone know where the fuel injectors is are on these models? there doesnt appear to be a rail, just rubber hoses! Going to try a compression test later toinight.
