here are different levels of NMW, depending on your age and whether you are an apprentice. The current rates (from 1 October 2011) are:
£6.08 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over
£4.98 - the 18-20 rate
£3.68 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18
£2.60 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship

Nope I wouldn't either, although whilst in education many years ago i did work for not much more than minimum wage.

It teaches you the value of money imo.

You would if you had bills to pay and no other form of income.

It may be not alot but it sure beats living in a stores doorway at night.

I agree with that but if someone was to offer me a job with that wage while my circumstances were good, not a chance!

I wouldn't be able to survive on minimum wage in my current situation.

Been on a salary for 5 years so no idea of my hourly pay.

You can imagine that the average peasant from rural Romania would be falling over themselves for that kind of money.

Standing in a UK field picking spring onions on minimum wage for 45 hours per week must seem like some kind of utopian vision compared to the old country.

I wouldn't even entertain the idea of getting out of bed for £6.08 an hour.

"Not getting out of bed for that kind of money" attitude is the reason their are so many people living off the Government and your Tax money.

You have to start somewhere in life even if its shocking!

Oh trust me i've been on minimum wage in my life a few times early on in life to say the least. And lets just say i have to earn over 1k a month before I actually start paying myself.

where i live in south wales, jobs that offer minimum wage arent around for long, im in college on £30 a week and looking for a job but theres nothing around, i wont be able to pay for much fuel :/

i agree with what some people say though, you have to start some where, i would prefer to be on minimum wage than live of other people!

Fuck me, no one actually gets paid that surely.

I get £6.25 for my weekend bar job.

But I'm on £9ish an hour for my salaried job (works out about that)

and £15 - 30 an hour for teaching (depending on level, distance travelled etc)

I wouldnt work for that on my main jobs, but for a weekend job that stops me being out spending money - its still money. and I make like 30 - 40 quid a night tips.

The rate for 18-20 year olds will increase by 6p to £4.98 an hour;

The rate for 16-17 year olds will increase by 4p to £3.68 an hour

Thats a given though. why work for £6.08 per hour if someone is offering double that.

Any job is better than no job, if you had kids to feed and bills to pay i'm sure you'd soon step down off your high horse.
