View Full Version : Subtle mods - opinions? (Animated pic inside, oooo!)

Hey,
I've been wanting to do some subtle mods to my saxo flat arch for a while now, and thought I'd mock them up in a very rough photoshop edit. What do you think?
http://www.geraintthomas.co.uk/01.gif
Before you comment though, there's a reason why I'm doing subtle mods. I'm saving for a new car and am hoping to sell this car soon, so I don't want to blow money on alloys, engine swaps or full VTR kits - unless these parts are relatively cheap.
Mods:
Front Fogs (or VTR bumper)
Front Splitter (or VTR bumper)
Decent Wheel Trims (unless I find cheap enough alloys)
Bee Sting Ariel
Colour Coded Trim
Mud Flaps
What do you think?

Nice little edit you've done there :y:
the plans you have mentioned sound good, but there are no such thing as "Decent wheel trims" :homme:
you can get 3 stud alloys fairly cheap, and as always, keep the standard wheels, and swap them back when you sell the car, and sell the alloys on after?

Haha, completely agree with you buddy :) I've been wanting some alloys, but I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard (especially with a 1.0L). Any decent / relatively cheap ones you know of? I have looked, but none that I like (apart from the 106 snipe alloys :3).

you have to try hard, the 1.0 isnt trying hard enough for you ;)
Not sure where you can get some, they pop up in the for sale thread now and again, and rarely on ebay..
but.. one of the best looking 3 stud wheels (IMO ofcourse) is the 3 stud Comp Mo.

Even though they do look great, they look too 'trying to hard' for my flatty :/ I did notice these though..

Multispokes look great :y:
another subtle mod you could do is de-slat and mesh the front grill, really changes the look of the front end, but still stays subtle, and cheap as chips to do (or buy one 2nd hand)

On the topic of subtle mods, this might sound completely noobish but would it affect my speedometer at all if I put 14" or 15" alloys on there?

In response to the mesh, you can buy a disposable BBQ from B&Q then use that, its like £2.
I doubt 14"- 15" would make any difference, but i'd have thought 14" would just overal suit it better

Oooooo, they do look nice O.O I'd have to lower it though, don't even know how much that would cost.
My next car is going to be 1 of 2 to be honest. It's either going to be a Saxo VTR, or a Mk4 Golf GT TDI. Leaning towards the golf :3

if you end up buying another saxo, do some subtle mods you could swap over. otherwise, save your money for the golf ;)

Mk4 GT TDI. That's the Golf I'll be getting, and I'm looking to sell this for as much as I possibly can.

Vtr bumper is not a good idea if ur gonna keep it a flatty. it sticks out at the side's about an inch cos it usualy has the arches there at the front. Will look shit cos of this if not all the vtr kit is on :L

You can tuck the sides in so it matches perfectly, I've seen a few and it looks quite nice!
And I'm not sure about getting comps if I'm not lowering, and I'm not lowering because it's... well it's a 1.0L. If I had a 1.4 or a 1.6 then yes, different story - it'll be pointless heh! I'd rather make the car as nice as possible without going too far :)

That's a flat arch with a VT bumper - looks real smart if you ask me! I'm tempted to do that.
Took some photos of mine a few days ago, here's how it stands:
