Okay, I'm looking to buy a VTR I see loads going for £700 to about £1000.
This is about my price range, I know i won't find a perfect car but I want something that i can work on.
I'm just wondering what are the main things to look for, i.e, Rust places? Where rusts a lot etc.
Thanks

Theres nothing in particular to look for with the VTR over any of the other Saxo's.
Saxo's weakest point in terms of rust is the inner rear arches, where the arch skin and the boot floor skin meet (by rear brakes). Water can get up inbetween the two skins and they can start to rust there, it will be an MOT failure if its excessive. I always apply some underseal along the join which will prevent water getting in there.
Another weak point of Saxo's, 205's, 106's etc is the rear suspension. The bearings can wear out and cause play in the trailing arms. again another MOT failure and potentially expensive to repair/replace. More likely to have this problem on lowered Saxo's if they haven't been lowered correctly.
Also listen out for knocking when turning, this would suggest worn CV joints.
Apart from that its just general stuff to look for in any other used car.
Hope this helps :)

The other places saxo`s rust is under the ecu & under the engine fuse box(these are easily plate welded)as said it`s the other 2 issues that are common on saxo`s.
Good luck.

Make sure its not a rotter, you must check all the inner wings thouroughly, make sure you really check well (e.g take a screw driver or a toffee hammer so you can tap about, also I highly advise you take a
jack so you can check the rear beam for play, any play in the beam then dont touch it as second hand good beams are getting rare.
dont be afraid to poke holes in someones car, at the end of the day it saves you (or anyone else) buying a knacker, ;)

Most of the saxo that I Went to c had been involed in crashes from the rear so make sure u lift the boot carpet up and look for any signs of repair.
Dont forget to do a hpi check and if u could get AA or rac to check it before you buy.

rust under ecu and battery cover, boot sides(rear arches)
stand a few meters back from the rear and if the back wheels are straight and vertical,
underside boot floor for rust too.
and get someone to grab the engine and shake it to check the mounts :D
