Not another whatcar thread..
I know there are loads and loads of them, but I genuinely could do with a few idea's.
Situation is this, start my new job Monday which is in Gloucester, roughly 40 miles there and 40 miles back. I will be working with 2 of my mates so we will car share between the 3 of us, I work home on Fridays.
Anyway, boring stuff aside, I have a budget of roughly 2200 and preferably looking to buy a hatchback. Got to be nice looking, can keep up with the pace, but comfortably fit the 3 of us in for the work journey etc...
Insurance isn't an issue, so please any ideas welcome!

Was going to suggest a clio but they have fuck all room in the back.
I vote for 306 tbh, what popped into my head at first and for 2k you should be able to get one in a decent condition and some change back.

Pay the few quid extra and get the 2.0 HDi, i had 2, one of em made it to 215k miles.. and was still running strong..
250 quid remap, you are looking at VTS power, in better comfort.. Pay 100-150 on pugnet, and you will get a decent half leather interior..

They're no rocket ships, you could get the 1.8t but personally I would get a diesel and go for the mpg!

If MPG and insurance are not really problems then I would go for a 172 if it were me.
Comfy enough and you still get decent enough power.

If you want decent enough motorway MPG and a bit of room in the back, what about an EP3 Type R?
I've just done 30 - 40 miles a day for the past 5 days in mine and the petrol light just came on this morning - and I had half a tank in it when I picked it up on Monday.
If youd rive them sensibly, they return decent MPG. I woulda got another 30 + miles without the light if I hadn't been ripping the arse out it coming home from work at 2am this morning.

I would absolutely love one, yet for some reason insuring them is a right c**t! Literally more expensive to insure than a Subaru, I have no idea why!

Definately thinking the 172, as the meet all of my criteria, Not too sure about the room in the back though, I'm 6ft 2" and I can't see it being fun for nearly an hour and a half there and back in the back.
However, It won't be motorway journeys, mostly A road, so its got to be able to overtake safely 3 up. I was thinking a 1.5DCi clio because with a map they make good power, however 3 up overtaking with a maximum of 5k revs isn't going to work! lol

Seriously?
I'm £500 fully comp with 4 years no claims and 3 points (off licence but still have to show for another year on my insurance)
Evos and Scoobys are about 800/ 900 for me.
I've never heard anyone say a Type R was hard to insure in the 'hatchback' category

Yes because they are the chav's fav.
I can insure an RX7, Evo, Supra, MR2 for less so I see it as destiny for me to never own a Civic R :fcuk:

The "Type R" badge has always been known to carry a hefty insurance premium.
Seen it for years over the forums when people are looking for a new car and a type r gets mentioned.Insurance is always the big let down.
