Hey Hey

Just got back from the cinema after watching Drive. For those who haven't heard about it, the basic plot is a Stunt Driver doubles as a getaway driver. Pretty good plot for an action film right? Won a De Cannes film festival award & It's even got a few recognisable faces too.
So what's the verdict ...

CRAPTASTIC!

This film is so fucking pretentious it unbelievable. An extremely large majority of the film is awkward silence between lead male and female characters. I cannot explain how drawn out the dialogue is, it got to the stage where it was just around 15 seconds between replies, It was comical. It's got this 80's vibe to it, which is accompanied by a suiting electro soundtrack which is probably the only redeeming feature of this film.
Yet somehow all the critics love it and that baffles me the most. Before people jump the gun , I'm a huge film fan, watching a huge range and amount of films. I'm not complaining due to lack of action ( even if the lead only " Drives" two times really ) what makes the film awful is the pace. Like I mentioned earlier, the LAG in response to questions and padding out with cruise scenes. Don't get me wrong it's not all silence ... there is 10% of brutal violence and around 10% action driving. The rest is predictable plot, 80's Electro music and huge awkward silence that make you feel you should leave the cinema and come back when it's over. No film should make you feel Like your inconveniencing the characters. :wall:

Rant over ... :y:

Anyone else seen or planning to see Drive? The trailer real does sell it as another film. Other than a track from the soundtrack, I'm left completely confused as to why it's getting top reviews. Why is no one speaking out or am completely blind to the genius of the film ?

Saw it a week ago, mates thought it was shit, I thought it was average.

However it is hugely over rated. The dialogue is dribble and the pauses between are that long they become more pathetic than awkward. The plot was shit. The violence didn't fit the film at all.

I honestly did not get what was going on with the story? The robbery of the pawn shop was a heist masterminded by the guy who is paying for his race car? What did the race car have to do with anything and what did that other car show up in the car park for and give chase.

I have no idea why they created a character with no name, no background or anything else to get you into the film. I guess its to add to the mystery of the guy with his toothpick and cool attitude however to me he just looks like a cunt. And for some reason he has 4 jobs; mechanic, race car driver, stuntman and robber. No wonder he can only say 3 words, no time to learn English.

It does have a way of drawing you in but to be quite honest after watching 20 minutes of pauses I would quite happily stop watching and not give a fuck what happens after.

The music may have been good but I didn't notice for how dull the rest of the film was.

The only good thing I can say about this film is that it was visually good.

Oh and the kid was basically a prop. (Did he even speak?)

Trailers ttally sold it as a different film, I thought it was going to be a race film!

other half enjoyed it, I didn't.

The silences were horrendous!

The fact that he even offered to help Standard was played out wrong.

For me, he wasn't in love 'enough' with the girl to warrant this. If he was meant to be, then the film hadn't built it up enough, there wasn't enough dramatics, or passion beforehand for me.

he was just made out to be a wee boy who was up for a bit of action

I liked it when he smacked that bitch up though

Ryan Gosling, is the KING of all fit guys on this planet. And no that isn't because he played Noah in The Notebook! I watched Blue Valentine the other night though and it was the most borring film i've ever put myself through.. Ryan made it bearable.

Basically a film that critics love because its outside the box. I think it would appeal to older people more due to action heros where more like the guy in this film rather than vin diesel.

I wouldn't watch it again tbh.

Being chatting with my mates who I saw this with, we still don't understand the " great " reviews it's receiving.
We use Drive as content for jokes on a daily basis. It's just so FUCKING DULL!
Should be renamed " Starring Contest 2011: The Movie - no with added 80's "

You should go and see what you think of it, then post back.
Check the reviews, they all love it ... I just don't understand why!
I want to stop people wasting money on this shit film, but at the same time curious to see if I'm missing something. I doubt it, the film was dribble ... but the reviews?
WTF :wall:

Johnny English is awful, I saw it yesterday, they use the same gag several times, you'll only find it funny if you have the mentality of a 7 year old (No offence intended) It is pretty shit though
