Hey guys really struggling to get into the plumbing world with being 19 and having no on site experience of being a plumber. Ive done my level 2 and just need an apprenticeship. Was just wondering how you managed to get a apprenticeship/ or become a plumbers mate.
Any help would be nice.
Thanks

Im a plumber, same stage as you except I have an employer and work on site, tbh with you mate your in a bit of a grey area due to your age, company's wont get any funding from the government for taking you on and a lad I who works for us was in his 3rd year and joined our company and he was made to start the whole course again and is payed as a first year.

I'm a plumber/heating engineer, only managed to get my apprenticeship due to my dad being in the trade.
I'm now fully qualified (nvq3/ccn1 + 5 elements etc and 5 years onsite experience) and currently looking for work as i lost my last job due to lack of work.
All you can do i keep asking around, get friendly with local merchants and get them to recommend you to their customers. Its hard though, iv even heard of people in your position that are willing to pay for the privilege of working beside someone!
Good luck mate :y:

Good luck mate :y:I was the same boat getting my apprenticeship, you might be best off offering to work for free so you can get some experience if that's an option.

I think its fucking bullshit colleges get these kids to go onto courses full time so theyre never on site, then chuck them out on their arse two or three years down the line with a peice of paper saying "trade"
Nonones going to take them on as they either want 16yo fresh out of school or lads with a few years under the belts.
Your just going to have to ask locally dude, could try the merchants see if they know anyone asking for lads.

Been fully qualified for 2/3 years now and can't find no work anywhere, all companies want are experienced people, I don't have the experience, so I'm stuck in a warehouse job now, kind of given up hope for a plumbing job now, out of the 7 people who I did college/apprenticeship with only 2 of them are in a job, best thing is if you know somebody who knows a plumber then try get in, unfortunately I don't know anyone so I'm stuck.

a way to get some experience under your belt would be via gas meter fitting, depends if you have MET1 & CCN though...

I am/was mate, best way is just keep phoning around and sending letters.. I managed to start by working for free just for the experience for a couple of weeks then got set on shortly after
