back in may (the 12th to be exact) my suspension broke on a roundabout resulting on some gearbox oil being spilt on the road. some useless council workers put some cat litter down and didnt do much else and i helped them.
i got a letter from an insurance compant on saturday dated 7 october about the claim being made (?). just phoned them up and the council are trying to make a claim off my insurance for £230 for the clean up.
is it worth fighting it as it was 5 months ago? would i get anywhere? also i was laid off yesterday so if i have to pay, can i say ill pay a fiver a week or somthing?

Contact the council, discuss it with them and go through it personally instead of through insurance..I'm sure they will come to some kind of arrangement

I agree with this.
Why did they go through your insurance for it?

Denie it, say it turns out it was the car in front spilling oil not you but you had stopped so helped put cat litter down :S lol

Unless there is picture evidence or you gave them a signed confession deny it mate. You don't wanna loose your ncb over some tight council twat. I imagine insurance would tell them to fuck off anyway as there wasn't an accident. If not they'd claim off every lorry driver in the universe for dropping diesel.

Or say "it couldnt have possibly been me,I have a saxo track car with no back seats, so I run it with no oil to save weight"

Laugh down the phone.
If they take you to court ask how comman lorrys spill diesel on roundabouts and how often if could of happenend in a time scale of five months. then laugh.

Buy a bag of cat litter and send it to your council with a lovely letter.

if it goes to court then counter claim, saying you pulled your back and are due compensation

Ask them to prove it was from your car? Did they take pics or anything? If not I don't see how they could do anything, your word against theirs. Lots of vehicles use the roundabout, could have been from any one of them.

it was stuck right next to the roundabout and it was on cctv (dunno if they would still have it?) which is how the traffic cops knew where to go. they were the ones that got my number - they didnt even ask me anything but knew everything about me. the only thing i can try and do is say it was 5 months ago. or offer to pay a fiver a week as im unemployed.
recon its worth asking my insurance about it? (annonomously?)

just let the insurance pay for it. Thats what insurance is there for. I seriously doubt you will see an insurance increase of £230 for a bit of gearbox oil on the road.

you'd be suprised it will count as a claim. My insurance went up £200 last year yet I earned another year's no claim, hmmmmm

I agree with it and i think theyre should be more of a deterant for cunts without it on purpose.
I do think though its a fucking ripoff and they seriously need to take a look at what they charge people......

of course it will count as a claim. But they ask you what your claim is for. Telling them that your car dropped some gearbox oil and you got the council to put some cement dust down is better than telling them you stuffed it into a hedge. Its also a paltry amount

ask them for proof that your responsible, then if they have none deny its anything to do with you, councils are shit and slow and it wont go anywhere unless they have proof

when i binned my last saxo into a tree outside weetwood police station i shaved half a tree and left about 4inch of imprints in the grass where my alloy grooved in.
that was about 5 months ago, hope i dont get nothing through, although knowing my luck it would not suprise me :'(
