Hey,

Got bored of my switches being in the centre of the car so i've decided to do something different an relocate them, at the moment i've only got pictures of the passenger as i still need to finish the drivers side,

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150357221914618&set=a.10150289751659618.344380.660189617&type=3&theater

On the drivers side door, i can control both sides, disabled passengers side, and for the rear switch i am going to use it as a boot popper, and still think what to use for the 4th switch

What you guys think?

Pretty cool that. Did you keep the center switches at all so you can still have control on the passenger side?

Totally removed the switched in the centre section and fitted a 1.0l centre console where the switched are blanked off as standard

Well, it was a bit of a pain, i had to extend the wires firstly to the drivers door and then had to go back across the car to the passenger door so i can control both windows from the drivers side, i'll take more pics when i get home tonight to show you what i mean :D

nice idea man! ANyone ever thought about using the electric mirror switches to do this, as they are standard saxo anyway...

Smart stuff and well made too. I would have suggested you to keep them and split the wiring so you get dual control and don't have to lean towards the passenger door to open the window. Unless you have master controls on your side of course :y:

standard on vts, but then you would lose the electric mirror control?

yeah I mean if you didnt have electric mirrors, could you get the switches to run the windows?

a switch is a switch so yes I suppose, though never seen a saxo coming with mirrors switches and regular mirrors on it.

I thought a mod with parts from a 106 could maybe do the trick:

The renault push/turn control switches could also be an interesting option

I was thinking about doing something like that my self.. but my mate works down the scrap yard an i picked up the doorswitches for pennies.. so its better than investing in a new set of door cards :)

That is what my driver side switch looks like

not bad, is that from a volkswagen or something?

hounsell92
13th October 2011, 14:18
it was from a renault laguna :) it was a nightmare looking for a standard switch but lucky enough it looks like all the french are designed in the same way

Manu
13th October 2011, 14:21
the printing is the same as volkswagen. Probably made by valeo or something. Funny I had a laguna + a scenic awd with full options and it was nothing like that (the mirror and window switches were joined). The other funny thing is that a renault dealer would probably charge you £80 -100 for that.

hounsell92
13th October 2011, 14:24
think its all valeo , i think i paid £20 quid for the driver and passenger side switches, for a boot popper and button to match, driver and passenger side inner arches ;) an hes gonna be dropping a start motor to me later on today :D

BARGAIN!

Always a good deal with scrappies, I remember citroen asking me £180 for rear lights. With no PCB and no bulbs, I walked out laughing tbh.

and yes valeo does a lot of these things, hence why you see half of the cars on the roads all have the same rear wiper.

hounsell92
13th October 2011, 14:33
you can get an even better deal when you know the family who run the scrappies haha :P i would never ever go to a dealership to buy parts.. either go second hand or get something off ebay, i never take notice of window wipers.. its all about de-wipering ;)

Looks like i have some trial and error to do then don't it?

hounsell92

i dont think the mirror switches will work tbh.. but ya never know.. trial an error is pretty fun with electrics...

true. a switch is a switch and could operate anything I guess. I've got a westie, but added a VTS interior which came with the buttons in the door card but no wires as have manual mirrors. Hence I was thiking of utilising them in some way and the OP thread gave me the idea.

Love the round twist controls too, has given me loads of ideas to think about over a cuppa now ! :y:

since I removed my head unit I have a blanking plate, might throw some switches in there and control the windows that way! easier than running new wires into the doors too!

I do enjoy playing with electrics did try a lot of things out in my apprenticeship, theres no reason why it shouldn't work we'll just have to wait and see ;)

a switch is not just a switch, they have different current ratings so i imagine that the door mirrors may not be able to cope with the current.

This is the main stumbling block i'm going to have, if i can get around this it'll work for sure, i'm not sure if graham is going to have it done so i might have a go with mine instead:y:

ahhh i've come across a problem with controlling the passenger side window with the driver side controls :(

If i discconect the passenger side switch i'm able to control the window from my side, but as soon as i connect it back it, the window wont move at all, i need to find someone to disconnect the switch with a reley when i activate the switch..

As i wrote that i managed to work out what i need todo... its gonna be messy buy i've resently taken out my push to start relay, all i need to do is wiring that into the passenger side door ;) ohh the joys!!!

a switch is not just a switch, they have different current ratings so i imagine that the door mirrors may not be able to cope with the current.

and its not just about the switch, its also how the switch operates when you push it, for example push to make would be a simple 12 +ve switch, and a window switch will be a 12v +ve and 12v -ve because its a window motor

the simplest solution, is to make a new mounting bracket to hold the standard saxo switches in, buy a second set, and can relocate them wherever then.

Shame they are a different size to the switches on the dash, like the hazard switch, could look cool there.

hounsell92
14th October 2011, 09:42
i dont do simple :P
