Alright lads, anyone had a pair of these ?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vibram-Fingers-SmartWool-5F-MQ5108SW-43/dp/B0047P73XQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1320760550&sr=1-1
Looking to get a pair to help me with lower leg strength and joint strength.
If not what shoes do you lads run in ?

They look like they would provide no cushioning at all, bet they put a lot of strain on your joints too.
I use the UK Gear PT03s that the Army use :)

For road running, I like Asics Gel Kayano 17s.
If youre going to do a lot of road running though, check your local sports shop to see if they do gait analysis - can make a huge difference if you pronate quite a lot and get a shoe to eliminate it.

Basic Asics, nothing fancy. Had them for years and do all sorts of running with them, cross country, road, beach etc all weather too.
Never had any discomfort

Not good for road running. Perfect for sprinting and plyo/S&C sessions though. A great investment if you are into your training. I used nike free TR2's for running and most gym work, but these for sprinting and strength/plyo work.

I'm thinking of getting them just to walk around in normally to strengthen my lower legs and knee joints.
They are considered the best because it forces you to run naturally, (forefoot) whereas normal running shoes provide more cushioning which can make you heel strike, putting more stress on your knees and other joints.
Dont get me wrong i wont be going for long runs in them straight away. I will ease in to running.
I personally think they will help me because i have knee problems :/
See what happens, just wondered if any of you lads had any.

Don't like the version with green bits - just looks like you got some kind of fungal infection

Both. Obviously the sponsors won't say bad about them. The 'real people' recommend these and the inov 8 road running shoes. Both incouraging fore foot running technique.

Well it's your money do what you want. But there's far more cheaper techniques to improve dodgey knees

You can just run with a rapid short stride on the ball of the foot. Makes sense to run like that, it adds another joint and muscle (ankle and calf) to take the shock of the foot hitting the floor. If you look at a dogs leg, its the same idea.

i have a set and although they are good for multi sports as in climbing and walking
running any sort of distance in them WILL destroy your feet
i took them running over some stoney desert surface in afghan i my feet were aching, good for short sprints on flats but thats it

yes i would recomend them they are good shoes and vibram make a lot of the soles for our boots so are actually very comfortable, just make sure you but the right set for what you require
however they are expensive and for the same price you could get a very good running shoe but i like being different so bought the 5 fingers
yes im a bootneck
