Hey guys, iv been a member for a while but this would be my first post, after months of searchin i finally got my VTS a couple weeks back and have been amased with the power and handling of a standard model!

One thing confuses me though and i know your probably fed up with 'how fast does ur car go' threads but on a straight track with 2 of us in the car my vts got to 140 with relative ease, im gonna give it another bash next time im on a track with just me in the car, u think thats normal though? its an unmodified 2001 model vts @ 48k miles.

Ill get some phots of it up in the pics section while shes still shiney :wink:

neways lookin forward to chattin to u all!

Would be best to use the speedo on the track to be most accurate!

(make sure its securley in place as you dont want it smacking you in the goolies at 140)

the stats on parkers say a vts top speed is 127mph, so it could easily make 140 on an inaccurate speedo id say

DarylVTR

i dont trust parkers guide atall, half of the stats are incorrect, you can get 120mph out of a vtr if you wanted, so vts mustbe more than 127.

it also said my tax would be £62, it was £97.29

Yeah but is that for 6 or 12 months?

to make 140 it would be just about hitting the limiter, a standard vts power has tailed off way before there and combined with air resistance etc... the standard car does not have enough puff to get there

a mate of mine has an 03 106 gti (same as VTS) with a few mods and it struggled to get to 140mph and that was slightly downhill. speedo must be out mate

Speedo on a tyre size 195/45/R15's is out by around 8-9%, therefore the 140 displayed is nearer 128MPH

at 140 i was around the 7000 rpm mark, i might nip out for a check on my lunch break in a few mins so ill check if thers a big difference between the dials and the gps. guess the only way to rly test it is to get it out on a track with the gps or somewhere that will record the speed. Maybe go boot it past a traffic cop n get pulled over so he can ask 'You know what speed you were going?', 'Nope, tell me :P'

140mph??? Cool :zainy:

Book figures for a VTS is 127mph and I don't think many people get that let alone pass it.

Daryl, please read this and take note of it

mk1 vtr puts out more emissions than a mk2, so the tax is 90 quid and on the mk2 its 60, parkers guide is clearly stating how much it is for tax ona mk2

you dont seem to understand about the difference between mk1 and mk2 tax, every time theres a tax thread you mention it.

i know this but i put in a 1999 vtr and it said the same figure..... and ive only even mentioned it once before in ur thread awhile back so stop exadurating (sp)

Yates

Yates

DarylVTR
17th July 2006, 12:42
ok if you say so, what are you trying to get at by it anyway LOL ........
back on topic plz? .... would you say it if it was some1 other than me ... probably not.

Anyway..... back on topic, my VTS i saw 125mph and it was still slowely creaping up but i eased off as everything started whistling / shacking, speedo was probably out mind you because everything else on it was pritty fucked LOL

well im back from lunch and at 40 mph on the dials the gps says 36.9 so if thats proportional to speed i guess after the speeds trippled the dials could be upto 10mph out, whether or not thats how it works i dunno, maybe the 3mph is a constant?

I guess il just have to wait till i can test it properly with the gps, not that im bothered by the top end that much, itssuch a nice car to drive, i could play all day in it and never go above 40 :P

Barry123
17th July 2006, 13:34
It's proportional.

And what you've just said give a speedo error of 8.5%

@ 140 indicated

give a true speed of 128MPH

bo :cool:

no being clever, but:

2nd = 60
3rd = 91
4th = 120
5th = 140

all on fcs long circuit last year.

5th - 130 but on 5000rpm
