Wow!

Been looking for a new car recently etc etc and i pay £1400 insurance on my 1.1 becuas im only 17, just did a quote with quinn direct for a 2000 vtr and they quoted me £1470!!!

I have been looking at furios but a wholoe new world has just opened up to me :)

Think a vtr is wise at 17?

Had my VTR at 17...,

and no i dont think its wise because unless your willing to pay extremley expensive amounts for mods then your fooked.

Edit : That cant be fully comp either... surley

dont see why not, its the driver that makes the car go fast not the car. Only one person to blame if you wrap it around something going to fast

Im not the modding type, im happy with a nice set of alloys and maybe lowering it :P

That's a good quote especially at 17. You sure that wasn't a quote for a Furio. Hehe!

The VTR's are nippy cars and going from a 1.1 to a 1.6 is quite a step up. At the end of the day, it's up to you but I'd look at going for a Furio because if you took the VTR a little too far and had a little incident, that insurance will rocket.

Haha! 4 replies all within a minute!!!

Depends how you drive, if you have the power and abuse it, your going to end up in an accident. If your a first timer than i think a 1.4 is a bit more wise, cheaper too.

Not fully comp no its third party fire and theft, and yes good point scott!

Lowering my car added near on 400 pound to my insurance, tpft :P

Edit : Must admit that was the most expensive mod though.

Ouch!

Yes furios do seem the sensible option but now i have seen a vtr its hard to resist!

i am a pretty sensible driver but 1.6 is a lot of power compared to a 1.1.. will have a chat to the parents, see what they think :P

Thanks for the advice

Dan why dont you get a qoute with the lowering and rest of the mods you have planned? If you can afford the extra running costs of a VTR etc then get one dont see why not :)

Tbh im not a modder as i said, i would be happy with a vtr as it is! Not a fan of lowering really.. but it looks good, i have about £1600-1800 to play with so i think it should get me a nice condition mrk 1 vtr!

I have been looking, they are very cheap! But are they relaibale? My 1.1 has never had a problem at it aced the MOT, i rely on the car for college and work so it need to be a good one!

Just a bit worried about the extra speed!

DarylVTR
17th July 2006, 12:25
vtr is quite reliable it all depends on its past. When i bought mine the radiator needed replacing but after that its been fine ever sinse....

The extra speed is good to have but its not breath taking like a vts so ull be ok..... just dont get over confident too quickly in 1

Karl
17th July 2006, 12:27
you'll get used to the speed difference in like 3 days of driving. I used to have a 1.1 before my VTR.
Youll just notice more speed and better handling
win win situation my friend :p x

dont go for furio now u know u can get a vtr buddy, ull kick yourself in the teeth if you do knowing you could have had a better car for not much money, furio has rear drums aswell ;)

Id say definatly go for the VTR, if the parents say no do it anyway because my dad had a wobbly at me for buying another saxo but i didnt care and i love it now!

Lol i thought the other day you said performance didnt matter! But i would say go for it! I went for the westy so i can get a VTS/Prelude later on

DarylVTR
17th July 2006, 12:39
lol every1 who says performance isnt an issue that owns a 1.1 including myself gets sick of it and gives into a VTR / VTS

Who is that bloke in ur display pic possiwestcoast - its giving me day mares!

i know plenty of folk who have had vtr's at 17. you just need to find the right insurance company. my mate is 20 and he has a brand new lotus exige!!!

17th July 2006, 12:52
well iv got a furio n im happy with it cos its cheap to run n looks good too!
If i was u i would get a mk 2 furio, n save for a vts!:)

saxodan
17th July 2006, 12:53
Perfomance is not a major issue buts its nice to have :P

Yeah the rents wont stop me its my choice but i like to seek my dad approval as he helps me out a hell of a lot with the car and things :)

All im thinking is i pay £1400 on a 1.1 whats an extra £70 to have a vtr under foot?

DarylVTR
17th July 2006, 12:57
exactly nothing do it. Dont buy a furio you will regret it, not saying furios are pants because they are farr from it just why buy second best when you know you can buy a VTR. Although people will argue that VTR is second best to a VTS but i dont know how they can justify putting it 7 more groups up on insurance just because its 16v. It stupidly quick mind u, but ull be scared by a vtr after driving a 1.1!!

When i got into a vtr from driving my old 1.4 pugeot 206 i was totally amazed at what i was missing

Id say personally go for the VTR but to be honest there isnt that much between a furio and a vtr. You can find vtrs cheaper than you can furios too.

am i the only person who doesnt agree with this statement?

Not meaning to sound harsh but there is a fair bit in the difference between a vtr and a furio. I know some1 with a furio and we all went off and left him behind oops .... me being the nice guy that i am thou, slowed down so he didnt get lost while the others buggered off at 110mph down the motorway LOL

Thats what i thought. My mate payed 1450 for his insurance on a 1.1. i got a vtr for less than he brought his 1.1 for and my insurance was 150 quid more. Overall it worked out that we spent the same altogether.

DarylVTR has sum'd it up really mate. You will be kicking yourself if you go for a furio. And seen as they cost more and your not going comp insurance. Id go with the vtr. I had one at 17 and the power isnt too much. Id say a vts could be abit dangerous at 17 though.

Not bad at all!

My quote was for third party fire and theft but £1400 is what i pay now so im happy!!

Cant wait to get behind the vtr wheel now :fcuk:

who did you leave behind then daryl??

i went for a furio for one reason really, all the VTR's i looked were in really bad knick, raced to hell most of them the engines made some interesting noises.

i stumbled accross the furio which had been well looked after, cheaper to tax and insure, and the running costs are a hell of a lot less.

its a pro's and con's thing really, i believe i made the right choice for myself.

Good luck though mate!!
