ouch mine are pretty low need to get them sorted out thats unlucky though i would of thought they would just give you a telling off unless its bald, not sure on the insurance though guess it depends on your age probably affect it more if you havent been driving long

yes it will make a very big difference, iirc its worse then speeding, lets insurers know you are more inclined to let a potentially lethal car be driven on the roads

insurers know everyone speeds, they just rape you for it, if your not beothered about tyres....the only thing that connects you to the road....then you are a VERY risky driver in their opinion

what was tread depth?

3 points is 3 points, dosent affect your insurance until you get 6 then they hike it up quite a lot.

The copper was probably trying to set and example you being a young lad with a saxo, If you where an old lady with a blue rinse and four bold tyres he would of told you to change them..

They aren't. That's why the points come with a conviction code.

its not so much the points that makes the insurance go up, its the conviction code you get with them

as above, i have 6, 3 for parking on a zebra crossing, which make £0-20 dif on a quote, and 3 for speeding, which tend to add 25-40% to a quote! What is the code on your ticket

How do you figure that one out Matt ? lol

I had 3 points when I was 18 (for speeding) and it put my insurance up like £45 on a £1500 Per year policy.

OP, how much do you pay now?

I have 3 points for a ts10 and it dosent affect my quotes in the slightest, when questioned i was told it dosent affect it unless you have 6 points..

a bald tyre can me upto a £2,000 fine so think yourself lucky.

shouldnt be a dick with bald tyres should you. its not hard to realise they are below requirements.

You would be surprised at how many cars run with illegal tyres!
We defleet around 50 a week and id say over half of them have one under limit tyre at least!
Thats why we have a dedicatd tyre fitter / inspector at the defleet site and a container full of new tyres of the correct specs!
And thats on cars hired by business direct from vwfs!

camber wear wont get you points though ;)
perfectly acceptable.

some people have no idea about a tyre and wear patterns. then the problems comes in to play.
central 3/4 of the tyre needs tread. at 1.6mm or above. the shoulder can be worn so long as its not damaged. (on average the first INCH from the edge of the tyre)
if the shoulder has "stepped" tread and this covers a larger majority, then that too can not be taken into consideration when measuring teh depth of the tread as it was only 3mm to start with.
ALOT of tyres use stepped tread on the edges so the majorty look alot worse / worn than they actually are.

camber wear, solong as its not to the extent where 2nd layer or canvas is exposed, is legal all day long.

i would say 99% of fleet vehicles i deal with come in, with "loose your license" tread.
and dont give a fuck about it...

pricks.
