what do you mean by a mirror finish? if you mean as in smooth finish in my experience you don't need to rub it down just keep spraying alot of thin coats and it will eventually build up to a nice smooth finish. sanding down lacquer isnt the best idea imo it can burn through easily and end up cocking up the whole paint job if it hasnt had quite a long drying time between coats

I've given rattle cans a go before on things like wheels etc if I don't really care about the finish but I always use the spray gun now with a compressor. Always a much better finish and you do get the "Mirror" shine every time.

Also stay away from Halfords paints, get the paint mixed at a bodyshop suppliers.Compressor & gun is the best way though.

Paint them in solid black and leave them 24 hours then flat them with 2000 wet and dry until smooth with no imperfections then give then a god few coats of clear. After you done that let them dry and give them another rub down with 2000 wet and try and polish them up to a mirror like finish. Best bet is to pay for them painting in 2k black and you will end up with a better finish than you can even dream of with aerosol.

LOL, That's far from a mirror finish.
If you want a tidy job then get professional to paint them, If it was that easy to do it then everyone would be at it.

why is that far from a mirror finish? in the 2nd picture you can see the washing on the washing line.
you try and get that quality of finish with a can or 2k i'd like to see anyone on this site get that sort of finish as quickly and easily as we did with these (top picture should have the same shine but naff angle :( )

lol you don't have to 1200 down, 2000 polish up etc. I never have with anything I've painted. Don't need to use lacquer either, just gloss 2k paint will be fine.

Thats done with using a 180grit sand paper, prime it and then straight on top with the colour, no flatting down, polishing etc or lacquer

To be fair though you can't really compare the door of a mini to an alloy wheel, those vts wheels look really smart imo
