106 gti vs golf 1.8t ?

Basically my mate has a golf and he thinks it's the tits! It's got a powerflow backbox, dump valve and a induction kit. So nothing decent really, he thinks it is about 180 bhp witch it quite clearly isn't!

Would a 106 gti with a few mods beat it ?

106 with exhaust and air filter will win, based on the gold being around the same weight as my S3, but the s3 has 210bhp standard. My mates standard s3 couldnt shake other buds gti so a 150bhp golf is going to get destroyed

But my mates a3 is a 1.8t and it beat my mates golf which is a 1.4 tsi. However the a3 got beat by the gti which lost to the 1.4 tsi when it was stripped.

This is basically what he has posted in my eyes and is evidently not a straight answer.

Hit the track if you want to find out. If not then you may as well get your brochures out and read the 0-60 times from them as thats all that matters in the car park.

106 all day long, me and a mate back in the day down hams hall and I won and I was only in a VTR which was lowered fitted with a VTS gearbox (whether that makes any difference or not) and it was neck neck and really, I had him on the corners but he caught up on the straights and then back into the next corner.

Map the Golf and fit coilovers and the Golf would win.

I would say the golf is probably around 300bhp with those mods so would beat a gti. But unless the gti had the interior stripped and light weight wheel nuts then it might stand a chance

spot on mate. My bros 1.8T has had nothin but problems since its been tuned.
Saying that, hes spent just over £1k and nearly doubled the power and torque from the standard 150bhp.

Compared to a GTI, id say the 106 will more than likely be quicker to 60, due to the weight, but the torque gains of a tuned 1.8T (320lb/ft), would mean the midrange and top end in the golf will have it ahead pretty soon.

If thats a 150bhp Golf the 106 would dick all over it standard.

The 150's are pretty slow until you start to tweak them. Once you get them to 180+ they're much better- and it is very easy to do it.
