Let my Dad drive my Saxo the other day, and he commented on how spongy my pedals feel. I can see what he means - the clutch, if I rest my foot on it, goes down a couple of mm and the brakes feel a bit spongy.

I know the brakes aren't bad, as I've literally just changed the fluid and it's recently had disks and pads - I'll probably adjust the pedal and see if that makes any difference, but as for the clutch... Do other peoples do this? Obviously my foot isn't pressing it down enough to engage the clutch, it just feels like a few floppy (lol) mm of "deadzone".

If not, can the clutch pedal be adjusted in a similar way to the brake pedal?

Normal mate, try not to rest foot on clutch pedal though as it will wear out clutch much faster.

Yeah, I assumed it wouldn't be good for it, although does even that little bit engage the clutch slightly? I did try doing it at constant revs to see if it made a difference, but nothing noticeable.

Might go have a play about with the clutch at the weekend and see if I can firm it up a bit.

Sounds pretty normal for a saxo as said already, start worrying when your brake pedal drops to the floor before anything happens haha..

yeh, this is pretty standard.. you notice this more when you jump in other peoples none saxo's..

this will be what your dad is talking about.. took me a few days and a few questions with friends to get used to the saxo brakes

Mine don't quite go to the floor! Probably is down to the fact he's used to driving a Passat - still, I'm surprised the brakes aren't sharper for something which has discs on every corner.

my dont goto the floor, but you have to push real hard,.. if i jump in the vectra after driving the saxo, i goto brake and its like slamming on and head but the steering wheel.. they are funky brakes in a shaxo

That sounds familiar, I went from an Astra to having a Saxo. Vauxhalls seem to have good brakes, driven 4 and they've all stopped well. Vtr would also benefit from ABS (I think it was optional, but mine doesn't have it) as mine locks up fairly easily unless I pump the brake pedal at light speed.

Right, so after having a bit of a look around here, I decided I would adjust the brake pedal. Made so much of a difference - pedal feels a lot more solid now. There was so much play in it before. For how easy it is, and how long it takes, would definitely recommending at least checking your own to see if it needs tightening!

real drivers dont need abs :P although it does become handy wen some idiot brakes hard infront of you lol

True that - it's ok in the dry, I'd just like to have it in the wet. Especially as I've got my winter 13" steelies on which lock up at the slightest thought of hard braking.

winter mode in a saxo doesnt work well tbh lol have more scares in winter than any other time of year :P

Got that to look forward to :( Had an Astra this time last year, which could just about handle the ice. Will buy myself a helmet and some body pads for the crash I'm likely to have in the ice...
