Don't know about going to good tippers first lol.
I do deliveries for a pizza place and receive a few tips a night, mainly in "keep the change" situations when its like £19.30 or whatever.
On the other hand i always tip 50p-£1 when i order out.
I never expect anything over a £1 tip especially in these times, but its always nice when you do.

I do normally, used to deliver pizzas so kind of repaying the favour from when I used to get tips.
Once on a busy night made more than my wage in tips, thank god for the local college headmaster doing his once a year mega order for students at christmas. I had had to make 3 trips to them though to deliver it all.

I don't get why people only tip in certan situations. Has anyone ever given a tip to a bus driver?
What about when you go to Burger King etc...

i found out the other day some people tip hairdressers too!
i never tip unless its like £1 or less and i cba to wait for my change.
in restaurants i only ever pay by card as i hate carrying cash so they never get a tip either, even if theyve spent the whole meal trying really hard to be my best friend

26th November 2011, 10:13
Fuck that.
Do I get tipped when I stop a shop lifter? No. Do I get tipped for helping a customer? No
If someone did try to give me a tip if refuse. I'm doing what I get paid to do at the end of the day. Delivery drivers are no different.

I give the parking attendent a tip when I pay my fine to release my car.
I agree with the above, why only tip in certain situations to do with food usually? You dont give a tip to the person behind the checkout in Asda or the petrol station do you.

That's just how it is with food though mate, like at restaurants, you tip.
You also tip at the bar in a pub.
You also tip your takeaway driver.
You also tip your taxi driver.
You never tip your slag though... Never.

Dunno about them, but I drive taxis and get taxed on my tips, WHETHER I GET ANY OR NOT. The tax man counts tips as 10 percent of whatever is on the meter and taxes me on that

I know thats how it is in the catering industry, you always check for tips on the table and when they spend £2/300 on a meal you expect a small tip at least when they dont leave one you think theyre rude tight cunts, even though theyve come to one of the more upper class places to eat.
Never tipped a taxi driver before, I just dont get why people complain how expensive things are, and complain about 3p raise in fuel, then give away £1's as tips when theyre already getting a wage or making enough money out of you.

I can't even get food delivered where i live LOL, but when i'm down Newcastle i always tip...even if the food was like £23 and i had loose change i would just hand over £25, or if the food was like £19.70 i would give a 20 quid note plus a couple quid change as somethin like 30p isn't enough
Up here my Mam even gives the postman and the binmen like a tenner each at Xmas time...then if there is a parcel to sign for the postman just jots down a signature himself and pops it in the house, and if we have extra rubbish the binmen will take it whereas alot of other peoples they wont accept it.....giving them a tip at Xmas keeps them sweet...same as with food delivery drivers if they know you're a good tipper they will make sure you get your food on time
I just see it as good manners tbh

It is shocking. Its like me being a self employed plasterer and being taxed on 10% of my income whether its tips or not because it could be tips? When its just the fee I charge for my work as im self employed.

Not my taxi , I only get 30%. Which is why I earn next to feck all and then get hit with stupid tax laws. And cos I am self employed pay loads for national insurance too. Luckily the wife has an ok job or I would be better off not working at all

^^^ disgraceful. Pay 80% for petrol to work then get taxed on it. Sounds almost like you're paying for the privilege of being a worker. Oh wait, it is.
I always give my binmen something at christmas, Like you said it keeps them sweet and they'll get rid of anything for me.
Mine "forget" about 10 collections a year. That's 20 % of the job not done. Every time they pop up for the remaining 80% they leave a trail of junk behind. Nappies, bags, teabags, rotten food, tin cans, you name it. And I pay an exorbitant amount for that through the council tax. The streets are never cleaned up, proof being there's a lawn growing in the gutter and the sewers are full up with dirt.
Then It's rarely the same trucks or the same guys so why should I tip someone I see 2-3 times a year for a job not done? Maybe I'll give them a loo roll for xmas if I feel generous enough.

If its a Pub/Resturant and the service is good, along with the meal. I will tip accordingly on how i feel.
Any high end chinese resturant (£30 a head) or similar i will definatly tip as its always the Don. The Old Shanghai - in Olney is probably the best food/resturant/service i have ever come across. Fully recommed :y:
I dont order takeaway and dont understand why people would bother with the tip unless its a few quid. Its down to the customer on how they feel about the entire servce. Shouldnt be forced as that just seems desperate.

depends how quick they are, not going to tip for sake of it. only doing their job.

26th November 2011, 14:28
I only tip if they go above and beyond their duties, you can tell the people who really want you to feel at ease in a restaurant and they deserver it, goes without saying that most of these people are foreign who are used to working their ass off for their money

It's added into the delivery charge anyway

btw i only tip because of the wear on the guy's car.
Obviously they get paid a basic wage + for each delivery, so i like to think my tip will go towards that.

Why tip? The delivery charge is in the price of the food.
Pisses me off when you go for a meal and the waiter hangs around while you sort out the money to part and then hangs around when he returns the change expecting something. I leave him several silvers

Being a chef for just over 20 Years & have seen many young waiters & waitresses burst them balls for customers & only to find the customer deliberately pulls out a bank card to pay is disappointing & in my eyes rude.
The waiter/waitresses job is to serve you & look after you & so yes it's what they are paid to do,but they take care of the customer with continuous services throughout the meal & even after they have finished the meal.
Only last year the young waiter/waitresses worked on Xmas day at a so called Plush private golf club where I chef & they all dressed up in elf, santa costumes to make the day better for the customers.
The customers paid £49.50 each & we had this table where the same family have been getting great service throughout the year & have never gave a Tip again paid £300 for the 6 of them & never left a tip.Now when you consider that this family have never tipped throughout the year & can afford to pay £50 ahead on such a special day & just treat the young staff as shit is rude.
I for one now give them smaller portions & so they with the saying "what goes around comes around".Chefs & waiting staff remember the decent customers & will give a better service to them & rightly so.
BTW:I'm a cheapskate & only pay £7 every 3 weeks or so for a haircut, but I always leave £10........nice to be Nice & I would prefer to be skint than be a snide selfish prick
Just saying !!.................

i used to deliver chinese food enything up to fifty drops each a night within a 15 mile radius. we used to have to go like fuck to keep up i know how hard it is to do this consistently night in night out thats why i will alwase tip a couple of quid. its not alot just think delivery drivers make a wage but out of that they have to take there fuel wear and tear on the car and eny fines or unexpected bills... i used to have a rich prick i delivered to twice a week 11mile out of town in the arse end of nowhere you pull up to his drive speak into a intercom and wait to be let in its about 900yds of gravel drive then the house... on his drive he alwase had 2 rangerover sports an a bently he never once paid buy cash alwase a cheque his meal was alwase over £70 probably the most ignorant and tight twat i ever met....

I dont mind the asking, its the when optional service charges are included. A few times ive had to get the manager out to have it removed from the bill because service was shite.
I only tip good service, and never on the card, always cash in the persons pocket..
Delivery drivers dont need tipping 95% of the time.

I'm an AMAZING tipper.
Gave the boy who drove us from the hotel to the airport a fiver on the way in and a tenner on the way home in lanzarote.
Left no less than 5 euro per meal on holiday. always give taxi drivers and bar staff tips
BUT - that's probably because since the dawn of my time working behind bars, I have always been blessed with being very lucky in the amount of tips I make, compared to my collegues.
In my last nightclub I could go home with sometimes double my wage in tips.
Halloween I made an absolutley ABSURD amount of tips, along with one other boy. the rest of the staff struggled to even scrape £20 that night, but me and my mate nearly 100 each and I was tired, grumpy, and snappy. god knows what I would have made if I made an effort with the punters.
I think my tipping comes from the company I've kept - very used to drinking in expensive places and feeling pressurised to leave large tips. working at Gleneagles I'd see the bar staff make their monthly wage over again in tips, and I'd often be given a £30 tip on top of someones lesson price.
So tipping a driver or someone in an Edinburgh club is kinds nothing to me.
end of the day we're all working to make a living and and sometimes its nice to be nice

I used to be a milkman and the amount of tips at christmas from the old grannys was unreal, I made about £800 one christmas. From the 2nd week in Dec every house I went to there would be a little envelope left or a christmas card with a fiver or tenner in. One old bloke put a crisp twenty note in as I had to walk down his massive off beat track with scary woods each side every morning. Keep the granny's sweet all year and they look after you
