MoT test to get tougher
Wednesday, 30 November 2011
From The Daily Telegraph

The MoT test is to get tougher in order to ensure that recent advances in car engineering work properly.

The changes to be implemented in January will include inspecting the dashboard warning lights that indicate a problem with airbags, tyre pressures, power steering and main headlight beam. Power steering, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control systems will also be checked.

The new MoT will also demand tougher checks on the new generation of powerful headlights to ensure they do not dazzle oncoming motorists.

The tougher rules are being brought in to comply with EU requirements.

for the head lights just put old lamps back in for test then swap them back only a 5 min job
If the lamps are taken out then you will have no warning lights on dash

but if the warning lamps dont light up then go out when the ign is turned on it will also fail

you will have to pay to have fixed/fix all warning lamps to get an MOT not just take out the bulb (unless you wire the warning lamp in to the oil pressure switch ;) )

What about the cars that dont have bulbs for stuff that come and go off once the car is started? Surely the mot place wont take the dash apart just to check some bulbs.

Healdights are a good one though, always being blinded by stupidly bright new headlights.

I read something in practical performance magazine about H.I.D's and it states something about they are legal if you use a certain headlamp/headlamp glass and have working headlamp washer's fitted,so thats a pain.

as ive said on about 100 other threads.

they have to have auto adjusting, projecting headlights with washers.

i could quite easily post up offical documents, so could a few other members on here who are MOT testers such as Jason.
but no one actually appriciates the effort we would have gone into to get it done... so why should we bother.

we dont fail cars to be cunts, its to make the roads a better and safer place!
i had a X reg Focus in last week... rear axle, well, i refused to even drive it back off the ramp once id seen how bad it was. match sticks would have been safer.

and they said to make them every 2 years. most cars cant go 12 months without an error, or potentially dangerous fault! yes, the MOT should be stricter, and more enforced.

Why? They were just as illegal this year as they will be next year. If you were prepared to get them now just go right ahead and get them after your mot...

Tontsy can you clear up something for me, when it says illegal mods or engine changes what does it mean, I'll have my vtr turbo up and running by then so just want my life to be easier if I need to change the v5 etc.

Having someone follow you at night with HID's on is like having a large pop concert following you around at night, far far too bright! stupid things!

From what i`ve heard if a visual check reveals no CAT then that`s a fail, regardless of emissions.
