So i found out today my new Holiday rota wont start until next May, not January 4th like i thought.
I started at this place in May and assumed like every other place, you would get 21 paid holidays as from 4th January 2012.
I questioned it and apparently you have to be there for a whole year and build your holidays up? So.... In reality, i can't take a week off in January to go on holiday for example.
It doesn't seem fair or sound right.

Sounds bit like how Sainsbury's holidays work, but they work out how much holiday you'd earn upto the reset date in May, and let you have it off.

Yes it was. Pissed me off that if you didnt take your holidays by the year end, they just disappeared, not paid or carried over :/. I seemed to get lucky when I left though, They paid me all the remainder of my holidays for the year :) was only 4 months into the year as well :D

This is how i see it. I can see my self here for a long while (And i think the boss does too) so why can't he say, Dan, you've been here over 3 months i'll give you your 21 days paid holiday but must be used by next May.
If i did leave, he would deduct the money from my wages/ take me to court.
Am i right in believing you get 29 Days Holiday, but most company's take the 8 days as bank holidays leaving you with 21 days holiday for your self.
How does Christmas work? We have 2 weeks off (22nd to the 4th). Would that come out of my 21 days paid holiday?

I think you should be entitled to the holiday pay leave when you leave.
E.g. If you work there for 1 year and 1 month and leave, technically you still have 21 days holiday which is yours. They can't take holiday from you.

Never worked anywhere where the holidays run from Jan to Jan, usually April to April or March to March.
You should however, accrue some in the mean time. I.e. if you start half way through the year, you should get half your yearly holiday entitlement.

Should i be issued this in a 'lump' or should i accumlicate (sp) this. IE, for every month i work, i earn my self 1.5days holiday.

Lucky cunt, they didn't even pay me the weeks holiday during my notice period.
Probably because I walked out at 4am during a shift saying "fuck this shit place, I got a better job to go to".
My last official day I took as holiday as it was FCS :D
My current job runs from Jan to Jan, and get paid what I dont take.

Accumulate. Normally people will let you take the holidays on the basis that by the end of the year you will have accrued them, so you are normally in a situation where by you end up owing or being owed...

Thats how i would work.
If i booked a Holiday for April, i'd eaither have to book time off when i have 8/ 9 days Accumulated (6 months from now) or have it as a gentleman's agreement.
I'll see the CEO tomorrow.

Different places do it fifferent ways. If I dont book off any holiday then every 4 months they give me holiday pay based on how many hours I worked in that past 4 months

So what happens if you were employed on July? You'd miss 3 months holiday pay? (4.5 days)
