View Full Version : eBay rules - Item location

So i bidded and won a 99p Stainless Steel battery cover. Item location is in Bedford (Where i am from)

Postage was £12.50. I won the item and contacted the seller saying i'll collect it when ever is convenient for you, i'm in no rush.

I got a email back today saying we don't do collections and we're based in Liconshire.

I sent him a email and told him to stick his item due to the stupid postage costs and lieing about his Item Location.

I guess i'll get a unpaid item strike.... But he was frauding eBay and my self so shouldn't he have some sore of punishment?

Did his listing accept collection in person?

Anything in the description of the location?

Link to the advert?

As Moke says.

You have no case.

& because some business are mail order only.

Thats like me buying a TV from Currys through their mail order service then turning up at the distribution warehouse asking to have it, because you paid for one.

It's still pretty cheap even with paying postage, then if it arrives and you didn't have to sign for it then it could have got 'lost in the post' ;)

you should have asked him first mate. you might end up with the strike

Mochachino

To be honest mate if it doesnt say collection availabe then you got no leg to stand on, to be fair you seen the postage cost when you bid and you should pay it!
I have sold loads of sets of wheels on ebay, people have seen the postage cost, won the item, then messaged me saying ' i can get a courier for cheaper than what i advertised, can they use their own courier'. I end up saying NO as thats the cost advertised is the cost they should pay. Does my f**cking nut in to be honest when people winge about postage cost after they have won an item!!

A mate of mine did something similar to this bid on an item and postage was about £12 but he then realized that the guy selling it wasn't that far away and he asked but the guy said he works awkward hours so no, but you could clearly tell that he was going to get the postage for alot less and keep some off the money himself but alot of people do that on ebay.

If it doesnt say collection as a method then its your own fault.

Lol!

You can report excessive postage fees to ebay. I was going to bid on a gazebo once and it was £100 delivery, so I reported him to ebay and the listing got removed! Also, I ordered some aftershave that was £4.99 delivery, fair enough says I, expecting a jiffy bag and recorded delivery. It turned up a week later with a couple of 2nd class stamps on it wrapped it one layer of brown paper, about 50p's worth of postage. So I contacted them, they gave me all the bullshit about time spent wrapping it and going to the post office... I reported them to ebay and paypal refunded my delivery cost :)

You can moan and whinge, eBay love buyers and hate sellers.

The only time Ive bitched about ebay postage is when I bought an arch for a 106 GTi, the guy quoted me 11 quid for next day courier. Ended up turning up about days later having been sent by 2nd class post (costing less than £2) wrapped in a bit of wallpaper

Yeh but how much would the wallpaper have cost him?

You mean stupid.

They put the postage costs up and the item for dirty cheap because ebay doesn't take a commission on the postage costs... Lowers their outgoings as a result.

this happened to me. Ebay charge a final value fee so people add a little more to the postage cost so ebay get less of a cut, this way they can off-load the item to you for a cheaper price, so everyone wins.

I sold something recently and added a little extra on postage, then the idiot says he wants a refund on the "excessive postage", yet it was still cheaper in total than any of the others that got sold.

some people need to understand the system and learn to play it - while us little guys quibble over a few quid, the money making corporation is laughing all the way to the bank.

Did you honestly expect a business to sell it to you for a loss?

some honest decent guy is tryin to feed his family by earning money and cutting his overheads by paying less to ebay and some idiot like you trys to stiff him with the rules and regulations!! get a life.

This is true, but ebay can cancel & will cancel the sale if the OP reports the seller for Fee avoidance as it's against ebay rules.
The OP will then not receive a strike & can also Neg the seller.

i hate selling on ebay. Its full of annoying cunts who mess you about. Always take about a week to pay, and regularly never pay up and just come up with the same old excuses - 'oh i wrote off my car i dont need it anymore' or 'oh ive been in hospital the last week'

just full of timewasting bell ends!

would never sell on ebay but ive had zero issues buying.

ive always read their feeback and read the advert properly.

probs a few have thought pah, ja whip a bid and get royally pwnd.

Exactly mate ;) ebay is such a rip off nowadays the sellers have to get their money back somehow. i sold a set of wheels the other day for £400 quid plus £40 postage, paypal charged me £15.50 for the privelage of using their service and ebay charged me £40 for selling the wheels. I can see ebay in a few years times crashing and burning as its pants!!

If im buying something of ebay and their a registered seller, i usually look to see if the seller has a website first because 9 times outta 10 their product is advertised cheaper than on ebay!!

Prickle
2nd December 2011, 00:42
few bargains to be had though aye? ;)

sucks to be a seller. rofl.

Aye, or look for a number to contact them. and if i sell i always put a contact number so people can contact me.

the final value fees are a killer.

If i sell something cash i ask the buyer to cancel his bid so i can acceot and stop the sale - again avoiding the fees.

i tried the 100 pound postage and 99p sale for a clutch once and ebay made me do a fee circumvention course to get my account back! 15mins of my life wasted!

If it doesn't say collection then you can't expect it unless you arranged it with the seller first.

A lot of people put the price of an item really low to get something sold and then make the rest of the profit on the postage......doesn't make it right but there are plenty of stupid people about...

2nd December 2011, 08:36
I hate eBay and the stupid fees! I also hate it when you pay £10 for postage, receive it and it was £1.27. Fair enough a couple of quid for packaging and time but some just take the piss!

But I've sold bikes on there. Normally get people to come and have a look and they make an offer. I seem either good or lucky at selling bikes on eBay. I've sold 5 in total and I've made money from what I paid on every one of them and it's always been the first person to see it that's had it. Same with my Clio. I try to avoid going through eBay though.
