my furio failed mot earlier today on the near side rear trailing arm. needs new bearings. i was planning on getting a disc back axle in the new year but in the interest of time. what would be quickest/ best option as it would need MOT asap.
1) get an hub axle out of a scrap yard which i will be overcharged for and then sell on at a loss.
2) sledge the trailing arm off and replace the bearings if the stub pins are still in a fair old nic
thanks

to find your inner tube is rotted too, and all that hassle for what, spending more than what a beam would cost.
iirc, i paid 150 deliverd for a Disc beam, complete with calipers, pads and discs lol.
also got one recently off IMAxle and could not fault them! professional guys, and supurb quality.

Dont waste your time with one from the breakers yard as its probably fucked already or wont last that long. Why waste time and money and labour costs if you get someone to fit it for it to fail a week later.
Bearings are replacable but have probably scored the pin. You cant change the pin at home or without specialist equipment that you cant buy.
A refurb axle is the best way to go.

i know all that craic about stub pins being scored by the fcuked bearing. but need it MOT'd asap.
i live in Northern Ireland and disc axles are hard to get. and its expensive to post heavy items from the mainland over to here so would probably cost a bomb from IM axles to post

Either way u need to do something with the axle so if i was in ur shoes i would strip the trailing arms off see if the pins are scored damaged etc and take it from there if there not bad replace the bearings pack with grease re build take for mot then save up for a new axle or see how long it lasts.

just strip the axle down and see what state its in. pointless getting a new one unless the stub pins are fubbard :y:

IM Axles send axles to Ireland, Norway etc all the time, its not that expensive.

was thinking this would be the best option as the axle has rear wheel has no noticable camber and has only been squeking here and there coming off low kerbs and what not.
look like ill be geting the sledge out... thanks to all

I had same problem. Took arm off to replace bearings and tube was rotting. Apparently the rot on the tube is usually the cause of the problem which in turn causes the bearings to take the stress of it wobbling about.
I got a fully reconditioned axle from IM Axle, 300 quid but literally like new. You get the piece of mind with a warranty as well. Had it for a year and had no problems.
