Sit out side his house, and red line it.
No on a serious note, just drive normally, no harm can be done then. If it's legal then it's fine.

is that a standard exhaust or some japcrap. Videos with sound needed tbh. I would side with the old man. Tired of those shitters with a hairdryer engine and 5" japcrap at the back waking me up at night.

Sure. Prove it.

I have this all the time, with the Saxo, Police same and said he was just being an old git.
Then when I got the RS he called them again (The RS is really loud, it makes windows shake) And they made me start it and just said, as long as I don't make noise for the sake of it, so E.G start it and drive off, not idleing for hours... It's fine.

had a guy down my street videoing me through his front window as i was 'driving dangerously' he was an old fart, and my piper was pretty loud tbh.
nowt came of it as he tried to hit my car with a watering can when i drove past his house a few weeks ago, stopped pretty quickly and had a right go in middle of the street.

Your car passed its MOT with an aftermarket manifold? Unless its a sports cat, I do not believe that, You also said you have a cat back, so clearly no cat in the centre pipe then

the clue is CAT BACK SYSTEM so could be
after market manifold
cat
after market centre
aftermarket back box

I got pulled by the plod for my Nissans exhaust was too loud, they got torches under the car and moaned as it only had one silencer. They gave me a producer and an order to prove that I had put a twin silencer system on it stamped by an approved mot garage.
Luckily at the time i was running a garage and stamped it myself.
I think they were just being picky. It was mega loud though lol

Is the law on exhausts much different between bikes and cars? I've had a few very loud exhausts. Pulled once for a numberplate and he checked my exhaust because it was loud (98db on tickover iirc on an iPhone app) but there was no stamp saying 'NOT ROAD LEGAL' which quite a few have. Then it's a £60 fine. But I see cars with loud exhausts and police never seem fussed? But on bikes in summer your lucky to get away with a race can.

Will save a lot of hassle.

i bought the car 9 weeks back from a trade seller and it had jus passed it m.o.t advisory were rear brake pads going thin and exhaust slightly noisy. i have done nothing to the exhaust yet but when i had a look at exhaust it has a 4 branch manifold then a middle silencer then a piper back box, so my guess is the garage i bought it from pushed it through an m.o.t..... the tail pipe isnt 5 inch, it isnt chaved up its just lowered on black vts rims. it is a 52plate vts and im 22 so sorry but your bet was rong shell-vt

im not harrasing oldies lol if you look at my first post it says he said he is reporting every loud car that goes passed his house not me exactly... just my wife works in the local shop and he comes in all the time and he told her thats what he was going to do and she told me that she thought it was aimed at me i actually dont drive past his much, i was just concerned what is the worst that can happen and thought this site would be worth asking. i have got repect for people i dont go out to piss people off im married and work full time have a 3 year old girl ive just liked modding cars since i passed my test when i was 17 and still do

Who cares? As long as it isnt mega mega loud and you dont drive like a cunt they can call the old bill as much as they like. Redline it past his house to show him what loud is lol.
My car isn't particularly loud but every thime I go to my misses's house (posh area) it gets courtians twitching, some of the neighbours had a word with her family about it, I just try and keep it below 2k and don't sit about with it running.
slimwiltaz
4th December 2011, 17:35
haha to be honest mine isnt really that loud the only time i pass his house is when i go for petrol and theres speed bumps all the way along his street so ive got to creep over them any way so cant really make much revs, but i think when im driving around my estate ill try keep the revs low better being safe than sorry, any way thanks for the comments appreciate them ;)

my new neighbour is the same as this he first reported me for syphoning petrol out of my own car ( i was filling the car with a jerry can cus id ran out of fuel outside the house ) and on firday night he blocked me into my garage by parking his transit infront of it and the fucker went out for the night.

You could always get an exhaust bung to pop into the tailpipe, it reduces the noise considerably for when you need quiet, it does reduce power obviously but worth it.
I had one on my supra for when I was getting up early and letting it warm up in the garage as the neighbours moaned a lot.

I would of moved it myself by towing it, or phoned the police.

Yeah the take two mins to fit an remove. I think the proper name is a decibel insert. They come in different sizes to suit most tailpipes.

you said the guy was out all night. I wouldn't mind waiting a few hours to get it towed away. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Sounds like the older gentleman is particularly sensitive to noise - irony is he's probably deaf.
No disrespect to the elderly and I realise I'm generalising but I'm finding a similar attitude with my father, they find they have to keep themselves occupied, have their routine that they don't like being pulled away from and they find slight nuisances becoming ever more annoying to them. I suspect he going to do it because it satisfies the former and latter of those things.
I doubt the police would take it seriously beyond the 3rd or 4th call. As you've already said you're cautious about the noise around the neighbourhoods anyway. I wouldn't personally worry.

id drive past his house on limiter EVERYDAY, these people have nothing better to do but winge,
if someone said can i keep the noise down due to XYZ and they were reasonable then fair enough i will, if there a cunt with a notepad after loud cars then ill make it worse!
if your car is legal then theres nothing he can do other than annoy the police who will ignore him eventually

...or issue you with a section 59. You can still be given a section 59 if your car is 100% legal, just have to annoy a few people.

had this problem as soon as i got my supersprint , but as i think moke said just dip the clutch when you go past . it takes tiny effort from you and will keep the older farts happy . i know you should be aloud to have your car the way you want ect... but have respect for the old ones bud dipping the clutch or slowing down abit , As if you do all this and they still moan which normally they wont as youve kept them happy but if you do you know they have nothing else to do so just live with it
manta

+1 when I had my SS system on it was fairly loud but I just used to dip the clutch on my road and keep the revs low in built up areas.
It pisses me off when you drive with other people in mind (keeping it quiet) then they still moan! Once they've done that they get shit and tbh they deserve it, holding it in first gear when it's just not necessary ftw!
