Hello
I was driving from maidstone to Canterbury yesterday and there was a vosa car sitting on the side of the M2 and there was also one on the side of the M20 today when driving home.
What are they doing?
Can they pull you over?
They were not with police but they looked like they were taking number plates.
Normally I wouldn't be worried but don't want my car impounded because of something small like a decat!!!

vosa can pull u over to check your cars road worthy. been pulled a few times with them i think they have the right to check every little thing they feel not to be road worthy which quite rightly so rather they pull me and say its safe than let a lot of heaps on the road.
and they also checked my exhaust volume and stereo volume too. but at the time i had quite litterally driven from my mot that it passed on. vosa said i had no cat as sounded loud. pointed at the sports cat in the mani and he was satisfiyed.

Yeah I completely agree, my car is road worthy but obviously a decat wont pass an MOT and I just wondered what powers they had?

they can take the car off you there and then if they want or
will give you a producer to get the problems sort and report back to there nearest test site

My cars road worthy but I have HID's (correctly adjusted never get a flash from cars coming toward me and they're 6k so not blue lol) and different steering wheel so no airbag but have a resistor in so dash light isn't on. With the new MOT rules they both need changing, would VOSA have a problem with them if they pulled me?

Vosa cannot pull you over without a police officer present as they have no legal stopping powers. The ones you see at the side of the road are more than likely just checking the reg number against the tax and insurance database.

At least that's something!
Tempted to get a sports cat, everything else on the car is fine

It's usually lorry drivers they are out to get

Indeed, as Peter said.
Lorry drivers are their main target to get, they can hand out high fines, I think an Insecure load fine is £30k+.

I feel better now knowing they need the police there to pull you over, seeing two patrols on two motorways on the same day worried me somewhat lol.
The M2 and M20 are the main
Routes to dover so lorries were their likely target.

Something around that, some old cunt at work told me as I was loading our work van's with pipe. Moaned about insecure loads and how van's get the same fines as lorries.
I cannot find it on google though, someone may need to correct me if I am wrong.

Probably why then, I'm sure they wouldn't blink an eye at an exhaust if they are out for lorries.

VOSA are knobs - I drive HGVs for the RAF .. VOSA sit at the side of the road or on top of bridges to scare people really, the main people they pull are foreign drivers there shit hot on them and also HGVs with dodgy loads on ... also they pull along side you and check if the 5th wheel safety pin is in if not £2000 fine just for that. ive not seen them pull any cars over its always foreign drivers really.

i really don't like vosa inspectors, think they are mainly ex-MOT testers with a point to prove and a hi-viz jacket, put a GV9 on my lorry once for a headlight being out on main beam

Yeah as has been said they are looking at LGVs mainly. They are the scurge of the motorways for us lorry drivers. There is only one other proffesion where you can end up going to jail for doing your job and that's prostitution! So many rules and regulations its frightening. Rant over lol!

Lol! I always get nervous when they follow me, always feel guilty even though I've done nothing wrong. I've heard they are now self funding so are on the look out for dishing out fines. But like its been said they generally go for foreign trucks first. Our company is pretty good for looking after the trucks so they tend to leave us alone.

Vosa CAN pull you on their own they just get advised not to as its safer for the police to get you,but they do try and if you refuse there will be a police car further down the road to get you, a lot of the time the just have the tax cams set up at the rear of their car

Ex MOT testers who are on a power trip by the sound of it.
There are a few death traps on the road but if they were more strict on MOT's themselves then maybe they wouldn't need to park up making out they are important.

I heard they're on about changing mot's to every two years. That will just increase accidents if you ask me.

sounds like their doing a good job in this case,
id rather they were pulling lorries and foriegners with dodgy trucks than normal car users,
a truck is alot more dangerous so should be targeted, cars with decats cause no harm!

I don't mind the VOSA checking cars out. I wish they could remove more shitters from the roads. Saw a fine example the other day emitting thick clouds of black smoke and that wasn't the only one. What are these sheds doing on the roads anyway.

Going to Canterbury on a saturday, that's very brave of you.

Got pulled twice for that. I thanked them since I didn't notice and take the spare bulbs box out. 30 seconds, sorted.

I agree in point, my truck is 3 years old and has done over half a million kilometres. It has to have an official inspection every 6 weeks. And I have to give it the once over every morning.

I stopped going there, costs about a fiver in petrol going round the old town at snails pace trying to find a parking space. Then it's a quid an hour-ish :n:
All about the outlet centre tbh, merely a bit of a jump on the motorway from your location.
