Right so my 53' Saxo VTR keeps misfiring randomly, not in sequence and sometimes not at all and is often worse at the start of a journey.

So far replaced;
Spark Plugs
Coil Pack

Took it to the garage today and they suggested it could be the 'Absolute Pressure Sensor' or something to do with t'other sensor on the manifold, whatever that's called, then again the garage said it could potentially be an ECU problem, but was unlikely.

I unplugged the Lambda Sensor and it seemed to fix it but then the next time I tried it, was back to misfiring like a bitch.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to what it may be before I go wasting any more money on things that don't fix it. :/

Ok bit of a wasted thread but, I think I've narrowed it down to the MAP sensor. But can anyone tell me if I change the sensor, will the ECU need updating or anything for it to acknowledge a new sensor?

You wont need to change/ update the ECU if you change the sensor.

Just disconnect your battery while you change the sensor and then re-connect everything back up then the battery, this will re-set the ECU and will be fine.

Tbh a faulty map sensor should not cause a car to mis-fire, in my exp they cause flat spots and juddering but not mis-fire but i may be wrong mate.

Well .. I unplugged the map sensor last night, went for a drive and was perfect, plugged it back in an was still fine. So went for a drive this morning and it's fine? Is it possible that this has like reset the sensor or some dodgy shit like that? :P

Sometimes cleaning and resetting the ecu just sorts somethings out!
