Hi all
Tonight my saxo's engine died. And judging by the sound it made when it died Im kind of preparing myself for having to get a new engine fitted, It will be great news if that isnt necessary, but I feel the need to prepare myself for it.
Its a 1.1 engine and I have found a few on ebay for ~£100. But how much do we think for the fit? This is what Im most worried about.
Basically the original engine was water damaged.

If it was a couple of weeks ago, I could have given you my old 1.1 engine..in Working order. It was stolen by Pikeys though, unfortuanatly.
As above though, Get a vtr engine, perfect opportunity while the engines out and the conversion can be done in a day, for under 150quid.
KrisB , an affiliate on here will drop your engine out for 100 pound-ish, so removing and refitting you're looking around 200/250 with fluids etc.

Cheap and easy power.- If you're wanting more power that is anyway.
As for insurance, if you're a young male then its likely to increase a fair whack, depending on what you pay now and you're company.
If you just want a basic 1.1 engine, a Scrap yard or a breakers on here, 'Mandyslover' would be one to talk to, he could probably sort you one out and fit it for a decent price aswell.

Arright cheers.
Im at the bottom of the ladder right now in terms of insurance so Ill not go down that road. And apart from the legality of it, not telling the insurers about a more powerful engine defeats the point of having insurance... they'll never pay out in a month of sundays if they find out!
I think I should just go for a straight 1.1. Just to play it safe for now. And Ill get on here to find an engine if I need one though, because Im up here on the East of Scotland I doubt there will be anyone fae here who is local enough to me to fit. I hope to get it sorted ASAP as I need it for work and skiing (first day of the season was today can you beleive!) I just have the worst luck.
Thanks for your help, will update this thread when I know more (hopefully tomorrow)

Unless you crash and the insurance assesor comes to look at your car, then you would be fucked.

What because hell open the bonnet, see a 8v citroen engine then look at the chassis legs and shut it again..
Get a grip dude :homme:

Possibly but I wouldn't want to be in a position where I had a different engine in the car having not declared it.
If you can't afford to declare it then don't modify.
If I could earn more than I do now then I would probably apply to be an insurance assesor, I reckon I could void 50% of claims easily ;)

Yep, its a dud. My friend from the AA confirmed this today. Id like to point out he is actually my friend and has offered to help me out a bit getting a new engine fitted ::y:
I will speak to him tomorrow but I will probably need to track down an engine that can be shipped to me as obviously I have no way of picking it up.
But I cant go skiing until it gets fixed, and thats a big issue for me, Im a ski instructor :fcuk:
Just for something for me to think about; What really needs to be done when fitting a replacement engine? I mean I imagine you have to hook up the ins and outs but what size of a task is it? Im a bit of a noob at this stuff if you cant tell alrady:wall:
The risk of getting caught out is slim. But see if you are unlucky enough your insurers will void your insurance meaning YOU will be legally obliged to fork out for the damage you have done (and even a dent in a mercs bodywork these days is worth a few £k. You will also get fucked by your insurance premiums from thereafter. And lets face it most UK modifiers are young inexperienced drivers, like myself, who (lets face it) are more likely to crash their car. You would be as fucked as a duck. Its just not worth the risk.

Changing engines is a Doddle. Especially if its the same engine going back in, same size & model etc.
I can't really think of anything to look out for really, You can do it in a day though :)

Yeah I can imagine.
But once youv connected the appropriate wires, fuel line, exhaust, etc. and put oil in it is that it effectively ready to go?

Pretty much yeah.
Just all the fluids, ideally a cambelt change while the engines out. Not alot in parts for an 8v, 30quid will get you a decent belt and tensioner.. Best to change it while you can, to help put off/prevent extensive damage.
Only thing to watch out for, is to make sure you don't Lock your ecu when unplugging all the Loom from the engine.

Thanks man, Im sure my AA friend will sort me out in terms of fitting but I just want to get an idea of what needs to be done.
And so the hunt for an engine begins.
