As everyone knows lots of people commit it.. some more minor then others, I have recently got 3 points on my license and i cant afford to declare them, until i start my new job in a couple of months, was just wondering if i didnt declare them to my insurance, what would happen if i got caught? fine? or could i receive more points? Cool story broo, Jordan.

you don't have to declare them until you renew your insurance.

i THINK i read that on here, but don't quote me on that :(

Ive seen a few people on here say they have got points but havnt declared them... was just wondering what would actually happen if they was to be caught, would they only pick it up if you have a claim on your policy? or could they pick it up any time?

What I'd do is ring up your insurance company and advise them about it.

The last thing you want is to have an accident or some one runs into you and your insurance people refuse to pay out because you haven't delcaired any points on your licence.

I'll probably get shouted at but. I used to do it and never got caught.. Unless you make a claim there's no real reason for anyone checking. Unless you choose one of the minority of companies who ask for a copy of your license..

My policiy has now ran out... so i need to take out a new policiy, i was going to change insurance companies anyway, but i dont want to be ringing around asking them questions like that, cause then there are going to sniff around at me more id guess :( and also tbh if anyone ran into me i wouldnt go through insurance as it would put it up to much, rather keep my ncb tbh.

I have 12 points on my license and recently bought insurance. I told them i only had 12 as 3 are coming off in a month. A week later they sent me a letter asking for a copy of my license, So i sent it to them with the 12 on and nothing came of it.. Just a thought..

Each insurer is different, some require you to tell them straight away...others are renewal time.

Unfortunately as you are about to start a new policy, legally you are obliged to tell them now as you had the points before starting the policy.

Whether you do or not is upto you...

Basically, if you need to claim then the insurance company will void the policy.
Any 3rd party damages will be paid out but you will get no money for your car, you could get 6 more points for having invalid insurance and your next premium will be sky high...upto you at the end of the day.

Right ok cheers for that, some good advice, i say ive recently got 3 points on my license.. all in all i have 9, none of them are for anything really bad tbh, there all just stupid things, Having no rear L plate on my bike at 16.. etc.

I wont claim on the insurance if anyone runs into me, the vtr is so expensive on insurance, so until i start my NEW job i will have to insure the corsa :( for a couple of months, then once i start my new job i will declare my points and take a new policy with the vtr.. Its only going to be for a couple of months max, i was just wondering as you know when you ring an insurance companies up on the phone they say that the information will be checked against the police database? will they be able to find out that ive got points via that way?

Last thing i want is to lie saying i have no points, then the next day after ive took the policy out get done for fraud.. all i want to do is be back on the road :(

It is a stupid thing, but waht catagory does the no L plates fall into? Sometimes they fall into a catorgory that also has more severe incidents but all under the same heading. So an insurance company could see 'driving in accordance to a license' and think you were driving with no license which is obviously bad, but in fact it was because you didnt have L plate on, which isnt AS bad, however they wont look at each individual they will just punish you for the penalty its under.

What devilsadvocate had said is possible but it hardly ever happens, never known of anyone getting extra points or it even effecting their claim should they have a claim made against them or anything.

I don't see them prosecuting you for fraud, you could have made a mistake on the policy when filling it out online. You would still be in the wrong because you are meant to check it over etc but I have never heard anyone being done for fraud.

Most likely thing is that they will pay for the 3rd party damages and give you nothing for your car, you will lose any NCB and your premium will be more next time.

They could (I doubt it but possible) take you to court to recoup any 3rd party damages they had to pay out (a street lamp is like £500-£1k) and the fuzz could (again unlikely) give you 6 points for having invalid insurance.

Thats the main thing im really worried about is getting more points... rather not drive then have that happen. The offence codes are:

LC20
CU20
MS60

cheers

Hmm yeah i understand, thats poo, really worried about getting more points, how ever i DO need to get some transport before i start my new job i wont be using the car a great deal, i know a crash can happen anywhere any time, but the amount of miles i do i'd like to say it would be unlikly i would need to claim, think ill just have to go for it and see what happens, thanks for your advice buddie.

it depends what you got the points for my friend jumped a red light gt three points he was with adrian flux bt since was only jumping a red light was considered a minor offence it didnt push his premium up
tho personally it wouldnt be worth risking and id inform them

i think you do have to declare them but it WONT increase your cost till the renewal.
SP30 points shouldnt increase your policy too much, prob £50 a year (SP30 = speeding)

lol let me make this simple even though your going to ignore it anyway

dont tell them - slightly cheaper, crash get an extra 6 points = BAN and massive fine, then be stuck for the next 5 years with ££££££ insurance quotes

do tell them - pay the extra just adjust something else to get a cheaper quote,

they can check your points without even leaving their desk, its all on the database so lieing about that is stupid, they will check if you get into a crash

Why do you keep saying they will void your policy? that is always a last resort and rarely happens.

OP, yes you should declare them, more so now that you have openly posted on a public forum about the issue, but don't listen to DA's left wing scaremongering.

Why don't you just do a load of quote's and see how they pan out with and without? You might be worrying about nothing, i did some for my points out of interest, and it made no difference anyway.

I have seen at least 10 threads on here from people that have had thier policy voided for lying to the insurance company, some were for undeclared mods and others for not telling them about points etc so it's not as rare as you think.
