Thanks Steveo - I also replied to you :)

This is the sensor for Behind the Thermostat housing - which im told feeds the temp gauge in the car?

Only 1 wire goes in to the connector for this sensor but the sensor as seen has 2 prongs????

Yes mate but the sensor thats screwed into the car is blue which is correct its the temp gauge sensor, the 1 they`ve given you is the injection calculus sensor.Did you give them the reg of your car.I had the same probem but with citroen. If they don`t have a saxo 1 in stock then ask for 1 off a Berlingo thats what i`ve got & it works with no probs.

Hi Steve,

I did give them my Reg and they brought out 2 one was the one i have and the other was a blue top with the same shaped connector.

So should i go back and look at the other sensor?

Guessing it should be blue?

Really appreciate your help steve iv been losing my marbles over this :(

Is the correct sensor shorter or different in any way from the Green tipped one they have given me?

Perfect, Ill go and get it swapped.

Also, should i be put off if the sensor has 2 metal prongs? as the one in there at the moment only has 1 prong which makes sense as there is only 1 wire coming off of it?

Sorry to bombard you!

stevo67

I think that only 1 of the metal prongs is actually used so you should be okay mate.

Totally confused now....

Took the temp sensor out that has 1 wire going to it and fitted new one..... Turned car on and Coolant LED was on and the fan kicked in straight away when cold.

So, took this off and fitted original and the problem was sorted.

So then i decided to do a test...

I warmed up the car so it showed just below 1/2 way on the temp gauge.

I unplugged the 1 wire sensor - the Temp gauge didnt move but the LED came on and FAN kicked in.

I plugged this back in.

I unplugged the 2 wire sensor and the FAN kicked in again and the gauge rised to the 12/2 way mark!

So what exactly are both doing! They both seem to tell the fan to kick in?

Right the green one is the coolant temperature sensor & sends signals back to the ecu.

The blue one is just for the temp gauge.

By unplugging both those sensors you`ve tricked the ecu into thinking that the car is overheating thus the fan kicks in.

Thanks Stevo,

I don't get it though, the temp didn't drop when the 1 wire sensor was removed.

Then with this plugged back in and the 2 wire sensor removed, the temp gauge did move....

I think i might have to just replace both to stop myself getting overly confused :)
