View Full Version : Yes of no to this gti 106?

Right i went to have a look at a gti 106 yesterday a 1998 with 72 thousand miles in good nick, thers a small hole hole in the back box and it seems to me that the release bearing in the clutch may be on its way out he said it's ever since he drove through a puddle when their was floods it chatters and when you put the clutch down it gets worse is this a big job? gti's are like goldust over here in ireland and this is a clean one http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2726728 here'a add of said car someone may know it? opinions ... cheers ! :y:

Looks alright, just not sure about the bonnet. The radiator looks a bit dodgy (though probably works)

The clutch often dies around that sort of mileage. No big deal, it's around £70 (€110 for you) for a new valeo clutch.

Depending on the price then go for it,see if you can knock him down a bit on the price mate.

Cheers for the replies yes the bonnet bra is gone i told him he can keep it but i quite like dimma bonnets :) and thers loads of bite in the clutch can you just do the bearing or would you be better off just getting a new clutch? i could get it for around 1500 euro (£1250) my last saxo was a nightmare put over 1000 in it and sold it for buttons, i want to drive a car for awhile that doesn't drain my wallet lol

Looks alright would'nt exactly say its "mint" though as its advertised. obviously best way to find out what its like is go and have a look though.

Your really better off changing the clutch the release bearing will come with the clutch kit anyway mate.Buy a quality clutch like a valeo one.:drink:
