Hi guys, I am really hoping that some one can help me. The speedo in my Mums 1.1 1998 Saxo is not working.

I have read as many posts as I could find on the subject and below is what I have done so far:

1) Checked fuses - All ok
2) Disconnected battery and left overnight
3) Replaced speed sensor on gearbox (twice)
4) Replaced dials
5) Broke out the multimeter - Power to dials and sensor and continuity between sensor and dials - All ok
6) Replaced gearbox

Still not working.

I am stumped, is there anything that I have missed, or has anyone found another reason for this faul that I have not mentioned?

My mum goes home on Tuesday so I could really do with getting this sorted before she goes, if anyone can shed any light I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks,

Colin

i gather by it being a 98 its got a mechanical speedo not an electric one, try changing the speedo cable

If he's already replaced 2 of the speedo sensors from the gearbox so sureley it's an electrical speedo?

I really am stumped Colin, everything I was going to suggest is on your list of jobs!

Hi, thanks for the feedback. I wish it was as simple as a cable! I am afraid that it does have an electronic speedo, hence the trouble.

I have since replaced the headgasket and the speedo has started to work, which is good news, but it only works intermitently. Given that I did not touch anything that directly affects the speedo when changing the headgasket, this can only really be a coincidence. However, I am starting to think that perhaps the issue could be earth related instead.

Does anyone know where the earth point for the dials is?
