pulled over and got out and was a women in a big 4x4 she said im sorry i didnt see you, its my husbands car im not used to it.

doubt they will write it off for that, the cars still got a bit of value about it and its a piece of piss repair, pretty standard thing, not like it needs any jig time or pulling

valued at about 4k.
priced up the parts new
bumper £650 painted with surrounds and grills etc
wing £175 painted with clips
bonnet £300 painted
headlight £220
then labour costs for fitting and stripping
and if steering rack is bent thats £1250 before fitting, takes about 4 hours to fit.
about £2-£3k for parts and labour

If those prices are accurate then it will be a write off I suspect.

if its going through insurance, which it should. they will use main dealer prices.

Yeah but if hes going through insurance they will get new ones.
If he was fixing it himself then I reckon you could do it for under a grand

27th December 2011, 20:17
fair one, i didnt think about insurance, i just assumed he was going to do the repairs himself.
saxowebby
27th December 2011, 20:29
tbh i could repair it myself for about £700 but she wants to go though insurance, so they only get new parts which is fine by me

New wing, new bumper, what else does it need?

Theres a clause in your insurance policy. If the car is under 10 years old then everything part wise will be genuine.
If it is over 10 years old, they'll use non-genuine parts for the repair.

I can't understand why an insurance company can declare a car a write off for a third party fault. I'd want my car fixing no matter what if it wasn't my fault!

Yeah but the value of your car will never be the same again as it's been in an accident.

Yeah but the value of your car will never be the same again as it's been in an accident.
If its been repaired then no one will know if its been in a crash and won't effect the value of the car..
If it gets written off CAT D then repaired, cat D doesn't even go on the log book so no one will know again.
The only time it will effect the sale of the car is cat c.
So if it gets repaired by insurance it won't effect the value of the car, and it sounds like they will fix it as it comes below the value of the car.

Hmmm ive had my saxo written off twice in past 6 month.
By what your saying it probably will be a write off they cat c my first accident and all that happened was a dent passenger door and dent in rear quarter.
You get pretty decent money though on plus side first time they gave me 1k to repair mine minus my excess.. 2nd time car had to be destroyed n they gave me £1450 :)

fuck saying anything yes they shouldnt have been driving uninsured
but if he says anything
1,itll put it back weeks/months!
2,they would pull out all together and hell end up claiming on his own insurance for it!
keep shut and get on with it
and as you said saves you a job selling it anyway when its written off

As has been said, however great it would feel to fuck her over, insurers wouldnt touch you so you'd have to claim via yours and get compensation back, maybe courts involved. Theyre not disputing so roll with it.

Lol at the folk saying to just roll with it so it's ok for someone to drive around with no insurance??? forcing yours and my premiums up?

Yeah but if she doesn't have insurance he will end up footing the bill or his insurance company as there is no insurance for him to claim off
Atleast the guy has said he was driving so if I was you I would accept it and let them get on with it
Juggyluggs

that's not the point though
the others insurance company have said he was driving when she was the driver so presume no insurance but also lying about who was driving is perverting the cause of justice is it not?

And youve never bent the rules???
If it meant my car was fixed and back quicker then who cares? Yes she was driving uninsured, could easily go on for over a year after reporting it and have to foot the bill yourself or via insurers!!

Drunk before 18? Smoked before 16? Never sped? Never done anything illegal??? Illegally moved a friends car as a favour/ out of the way if they cant?
Yes, i agree, shouldnt have been driving uninsured, had she disputed liability then the op would have realised that she wasnt insured and be left with trying to get his insurance to fix it or worse still (if youre not fully comp) left with no car!

If you was with direct line you get uninsured drivers promise do you not listen to the adverts :D
Edit: who is to say she ain't insured people do it to stop their own premiums going up. Like the bloke may have a hell of a lot more no claims bonus then her etc..
