Sa was good as you could work out and get huge even if you did play a 'guy
For me vice city is the best with it's many links to carlitos way and the end in my white suit in my white mansion with my white lambo.

GTA III, for the fact it was the most advanced game at it's time in terms of a map of that size etc.
San Andreas, because it's the most annoying / addictive lol.

San andreas for me, i loved the whole concept of it. the story, customization, the cheats e.g flying car and jetpack :D

San Andreas without a doubt. Such a dynamic and entertaining game.. I'm hoping the new one is going to live up to that. Disappointed with GTA 4 a little, should have done more.

San andreas all the way, more things to do and was fun! GTA 4 imo total letdown, graphics were good but boredom set in within a day.
Gotta also say back to the old school with a bit of gta: london lol aerial view was always a laugh :)

vice city
they all went to pot when you had to start taking girls out on a dates for missions...
altho i did enjoy san andreas, i felt it was just too big, being on one side of map and your hood being under attack, just got bored taking so long to get back

Man, this is like choosing between what nut I'd keep.
3 was revolutionary.. Incredible for it's time.. Vice City was great.. San Andreas has to be challenging for the title.. IV changed it a little bit making it more realistic, just so hard to choose.. Probably San Andreas though.. Just for the jet packs/black guys/gangs/jets/parachutes etc.

I agree 100% with this, GTA3 was a change in gaming, especially as it was one of a kind game on the PS2 at the time.
Vice City was insane, a good storyline to it, although a bit confusing.
San Andreas was a different gravy, completely different gravy. The Plans that you could fly, the towers that you could fly into, I threw away my social life for that game.

I think that the story to Vice City and the time is was based in made it the best.
That and the fact that it was the first GTA that you could actually fly in!

san andreas was my favourite by far, followed extremely closely by vice city, spent so much time playing those two.
gta 3 was revolutionary, i bought a ps2 for that game alone ha.
iv was a massive let down, seen the trailer for the new one, but doesnt excite me anymore, they are almost too technical and the graphics too good, prefered the ruggedness of the old games tbfh

Just Cause or Saints Row fills the niche for that now imo.

Just Cause is awesome.
Not such a fan of Saints Row, but it's still a good game. Saying that I only played the first one.

Vice City for me, spent I don't know how many hours playing that, used to love getting completely distracted from completing a mission by running over civilians, shooting hookers, getting chased by SWAT, doing wheelies on motorbikes, listening to classic 80s tunes
Couldn't get into San Andreas

29th December 2011, 18:27
san andreas probably
I found gta4 kinda long :S you didnt have any time to do missions becuase some bell will call you to do something

hmm vice city and san andreas are very close for me, They feel almost different though as SA gave you more freedom, but you cannot beat VC in the 80's!!
VC with SA gameplay would be the best imo!

Can't believe how many of you are bigging up San Andreas! A game where you can play a black guy that goes round killing white cops. Imagine if they'd brought a game out where you played a white copper that had to shoot black guys, there'd be world war 3.
I loved the original GTA. Takes some beating still!

Vice City was by far the best with GTA III close after that, I must have spent thousands of hours on Vice City. From San Andreas onward they've been rubbish although Chinatown Wars on DS had a couple of clever features.

Definitely San Andreas, and with the new one being set in Los Santos it'll hopefully bring the things everybody liked from SA and cross it with GTA IV making for more realistic play, which i can't wait for. and also Gibbo, white house? White lambo?> why not a yellow barge?

I can't decide TBH. I spent hours, and hours, and hours playing Vice City, and the soundtrack was just epic. But, I also spent hours playing San Andreas, and going out into the desert etc was just awesome.
Pushed, i'd probably say;
San Andreas
Vice City
GTA3
GTA4
Been far too long since I played any of the top down ones so I can't exactly include them...
Tom
30th December 2011, 18:05
San Andreas closely followed by Vice City. GTA 4 was a let down imo.
Looking forward to the new one seeing as it's based on the location of San Andreas.

Why would you walk when you could drive? ;)
There's so many things in SA that were just better than GTA 4..
Hopefully they bring some of that back in 5.

SA had that thing where you were in the middle of nowhere and no cars would come past lol so hiking up the mountain is the only option too then get in the camper and drop it off the edge lol

Just played San Andreas again today (first time in years) and was reminded that this is what GTA is all about.
Makes GTA 4 feel like a slow, cold experience.

Vice city for me! Shame you couldn't swim though. But that's just a minor setback! I enjoyed San Andreas just felt like the creators had been going though a mid life crisis or took on too many influences but don't get me wrong I still enjoyed it :)

San andreas was huge but riddled with bugs. Vice city was awesome, not massive like sa which got irritating after a while. Loved the story in vice city too, was the only one i enjoyed doing 100%. Got g

can you play Sa on the ps3?
If you have a 40gb original PS3 then yes, due to the price of these being back compatible, Sony discontinued them due to them losing out on every PS3 made!, so unless you have one of the 1st generations then no you can't :(, You can always bust out a trusty old PS2 though!

San Andreas was too clean i liked how III was rough and in a rough urban area and not 'the hood'

I remember when San Andreas came out and I persuaded my old man to take me down there and get it for me. Was only 11 when it came out and remember getting that san andreas scarf as a promotional item. Rushing home to play. In fact I think San Andreas is one of the things that got me talking to one of my best mates that we properly bonded over, sad I know and not that we weren't mates before or anything lol but that was first year of high school and when he started coming round and just playing GTA for hours :). Good times that.

This thread needs a poll. Definately Vice City for me, Lance Vance Dance, and taking over all of the business including the p0rn studio haha, good times for a growing teenager :P
GTA3 was good, i didnt have a memory card so whenever i turned the game i had to watch the opening scene which i still remember now! "I know a place on the edge of the red light district where we can lay low for a while... But my hands are all messed, so you better drive brother!"
San Andreas was good, but too big for me. The best part was going up the mountain and parachuting off! Haha. Or finding as many tractors as you can and hooking them all together.
How has nobody mentioned the cars on a car forum? Remember the Banshee, Infernus etc?
I may just have to invest in the new one!
