Desperately need a car with a small engine and spotted one of these locally in a 1.4 that fits the bill-not the scenic
Right car right price range/mileage etc

Anyone know much about these in terms of reliability?

Has the usual part service history,MOT just done with no advisories

I learnt in a 05 megane and was really nice to drive. And my mates also just got one so cant comment on reliability yet but he seems to enjoy it quite a lot.

If its the shape with the "bum", window regulators will need changing every 6 months.

I can confirm this 100 million percent, my mate has spent silly money on his, now loathes it with a passion! Still not repaired, electrics in general are gash as F**K, many other warning lights etc on.

Brother had a 225 for 4 years, only thing his ever needed doing was a tyre pressure sensor.

My bro has a 1.5dci and even at 90 on the motorway it was showing 70+ mpg. Petrol 1.4 would be a bit shit, though - slow but without the fuel economy to make up for it.

We have the Megane estates for work.

Had the old "bum" shaped one and have got the new shaped one now we do serious miles in them.

The old one I had, had nothing but trouble with the window regulators! had a new engine wiring loom.... TWICE!

Everytime a headlamp went, it was in the garage for 24 hours!

Interior was shoddily built.

the new one is a LOT better so far (fingers crossed!)

If I had the money to spend, i'd get a passat/golf or modeo.

Had all as hire cars when the Migrane was in for repair. all were excellent cars that should be around a similar price point.

I had the 1.6 fidji and it was nice to drive and easy to work on, i had to replace wheel bearings quite a few times, had to replace the gearbox but think that was my own fault, overall though it was a nice car.

My sister used to have the 1.5dci 5 door 05 model. He rear axle started to lock and caused the car to stop dead also the key fob started to play up (also done this on my cousins) it cost something like £400 to fix the key fob and it also had several electrical problems... But here first one was the petrol 3door and had no problems with it what so ever.

Mine had been ragged by previous owners so the gearbox and clutch were knackered..... But the engine was on 110k and ran spot on even with all the abuse it had

I bought a coupe for 500 quid, not a single things gone wrong with it, apart from a dodgy connection that kept blowing a fuse, simple tighten of a bolt, sorted

I had a 1.6 auto. Broke the gearbox somehow so it could stall and didnt like change gear sometimes.

The only real issue I had was the coil packs going, and then the rest followed. Common problem for them.

Nice interior for what they are, if you get a dynamique then its top of the range stuff so air con, panoramic full glass roof, leather seats, electric heated mirrors.

So all good stuff, I acutally liked mine and with the k&n from a v5 golf it sounded pretty nice.
