howdy, Am in the process of selling my car I've already rang up the insurance company for a quote for my next car, All am doing is simply switching the car over and paying the difference as still got fair while left on the policy.

My question is if i sell my current car can i leave the policy running under the saxo until i buy my next car, then when i do buy one just ring them up and switch it over then....
Not to sure how that side of it works lol

Cheers :)

depends which insurance company you are with, when I sold my 1st car, they said I had 2 weeks to get a new car or the policy would be closed, so when I sold my 2nd car I never told them until I had the new one. but I guess other insurance companies have different policys

you'll need to find out from your insueres mate.

suppose you are still the named driver untill the buyer get his log book back through so i guess it would be ok just the leave it running. or if you can afford it buy the new car before selling the old one.

Ring up and tell them you have sold the car.

They will remove it from the policy and stick it on hold until you ring back with a new car.

They did that for me on month 10 of the policy just so I could finish and get the NCB for that year :)

i have never told the ins people till i had bought a new motor.
Saying that, in 2009 i wrote off my escort GTi (gutted :( ) and they provided a courtesy car (wasnt my fault) they kept my policy going for 6 mnths till i had bought another car (still had to pay my monthly policy payments mind)
although on a good note i got £5000 comp cos the silly american wrote my car off and buggered both my legs in the process (he completely destroyed my front end GIT)

you dont have to tell them youve sold it, theyll have no clue!

sell it then once youve sorted a new car, swap the details over, they give you a certain time if you tell them

but why tell them, theyll never know

Otherwise you are insuring someone elses car.

If the other person choses not to get insurance, it will show up on any ANPR camera as insured. Not the end of the world because why should you give a shit but not worth the agro if the fuzz knock on your door after finding out who has insured the car for some reason...

doesnt really matter if you intend to swap the policy, just gives you a little bit more time then they would otherwise

I've always left my cars insured after I've sold them. Even when I crashed a car and didn't have one for 2 months I kept it insured because I didn't want to lose ncb. I never thought about it showing up on ANPR but at the end of the day if such a thing did happen it would all be sorted pretty quickly I'd imagine.
