Hi guys (dont know weather posting in the right section but anyway here goes)

I have a sony car stereo running in my bedroom with some 6x9 speakers in custom built boxes witch is plenty for me but i want to have a little sub of some description so when i have the house to myself can listen to my music properly. I have a very limited budget of like £30-50 would i be able to get a sub and amp for that? been looking on ebay but nothings caught my eye yet.

Any suggestions?

£30-£50 i doubt it really mate, might aswell save at least a few hundred.

you could be a pikey and make some dodgy set up for that.

but for 50 i wouldn't bother, wait until you grow up/get a job to buy a decent system.

My other option is that i have a pair of normal house speakers with 2 sets of cables coming out the back a low input and i high input, if i got just an amp and hooked it up to the low input would that work?

I stopped reading from that point. want more bass, buy a proper system tbh. Looking hard enough I would certainly find a decent second hand hifi amp + speakers for that price.

i bought a home surround sound 5.2 about a year ago, hooked it up to some decks in the front room - sounds amazing

i'd recommend doing that, scrap all the homemade systems and buy yourself a decent surround sound, you'll never look back

indeed for fifty buff you could get yourself a second hand system with more punch than those six nines you got. I've still got my Aiwa ah 1000 any one that knows that system knows its a beast lol.

I'm sure that, with that sort of money you could find a decent second hand micro system that will sound much better than what you have or plan to have.

Thousand watts. .
Don't think so, you probably got 2 x 50w tops in the real watts world ;)

i know rms / peak and all that.... Have you seen the speakers though they're not small.

Yeah I had a look at it. Dude, they're made out of plastic/cardboard and they're designed for looks, not efficiency. Like I said, you should try the real stuff before ranking these as "beasts" ;) Then size is irrelevant and so are watts, especially rms/peak and all that crap. The rms/peak figures are just there to impress the overall non-tech savvy population. Every other person who knows about sound systems knows that loudness is measured in decibels.

Size isnt everything. Ive got a 2x10 bass cab thats only about 300w rms.

Hmmm, I smell some celestions... Whole different animals, guitar and bass amps go louder than any hifi out there. More comparable with PA systems. Then again it's about dB, not watts. Your amp will blast out any all in one system despite having "less watts" on paper.

Its an ashdown cab, not sure on the speakers they use in them! Is their mid range one too, id be broke if i went top end but by god they sound sexual!

^^^ flol. For the price that costs you could have found yourself a multichannel system. The oversized capacitor looks extremely funny:homme:

Lol at aiwa being classed as a high end beast. Lol

I'm running a Mcintosh valve amp from back in the 80's. To look at, you'd think it was some 8 year old's school project but to listen to, it's warm, mellow and is worlds appart from most of the mosfet rubbish produced today.

However, my CD player (Nad) is brand new, as i believe that it's best to keep up with the technology when it comes to digital.

Excellent choice of gear that. I still miss my NAD amp. Now a CD player is more or less a CD player, however NAD using some quality parts inside and even custom parts (their transformers are huge). Compared to cheap chinese shit there's a world of difference. Your amp is probably worth a small fortune, Mcintosh usually does not depreciate much

adding words to my mouth are we? I said beast... At no point did i Say High end..... Despite What you think its a good system. Apart from their reliability, aiwa made a good system in the xh a1000 dont comment unless you've heard it. I guarantee you'd be surprised. Plus the guy said he wanted some Extra bass for a home system at which point i was talking about the AIWA in general, where as now this thread seems to have turned into dick measuring contest as to who's got What system and What not.

all right handbags down. OP got sorted and realised he could upgrade well within his budget.

Carl, everyone figured out you're very happy with your current system but let me assure you that will change in the future. Since you're into music production i have no doubt that at some point you will jump the jump and upgrade... For some monitors that will make you forget about your system forever, as soon as you discover a whole new level of beastiness. That's only a matter of time ;)

i dont use it any more mate i do have flat monitors for my music making..and i am aware of bigger systems. My cousin used to have some ridiculous shit wired up in his house.....but going back to the OP, I was talking in general Since initialy we told the guy he could get a decent home stereo. I just mentioned my aiwa as being a beast in terms of a home environment. Your all shooting me down like I'm comparing it to the valve sound system (which by the way I've experienced). I wasnt i'm just basically saying my old school Aiwa was nice for home use music listening and you Can get nice systems like that for home use for cheap...... I personally think people just like to make comments based on What some one else says to make themselves feel clever.

But i Cant be arsed lol Say What you like people clearly dont read through threads properly. They just see What some one else says and join the band wagon.

Id fucking love a good valve amp. But bass amps are mostly solid state nowadays unless you pay serious money, whereas you can get mid range guitar amps with at least tube preamps

And manu, its just missing a nice 15" cab to finish it off! Makes me wanna go play but its far too loud for bedroom practicing, used to be gigging :(

I like all things valve to be honest.

As a guitarist, i'm also running a little 5w blackstar, all valve head, through a Marshall 1936 vintage Cab. Sounds great for such a small amp and small cost.

If anyones is interested, my dad is running a Cyrus amp, Rotel CD player and a Cyrus 1 Tuner, along with B&W speakers. Doesn't sound as nice as my valve amp though (imo of coarse).

Sounds yummy, I always loved the warmth of valve amps. Then aside of that I always loved Rotel amp/preamp combos, dog balls.
