Basically iv pumped about 600 quid into a saxo i bought for 800 and it was a cat c. iv got my MOT on thursday and i just know it will fail on something. And today my engine management light has came on because i either have a fucked coil pack or spark plugs or who knows? Iv bought a new clutch, driveshaft, fog lights, spare wheel, cat converter, battery, drop links, the list goes on, my family just tell me to get rid of it, but its easier said than done, the fact that iv put a lot of money into it means i want to get some use out of it, but the bills keep stacking up, iv got no money for another car, my tax is due this month, and my insurance is due next month. I should never have bought it in the first place but needed a car and it was close, never done hpi checks or shit so its my entire fault. but there will be a time when you have stop...

Mate at work bought a punto because it was black, had 17's and tints. Never known such a shit car. He's probably spent 2k just on fixing it. He could of spent 2.5k on a good car instead lol. I know what you mean about not wanting to get rid though. My old clio had just had tyres, cambelt and an MOT when I got rid. Wanted for nothing but I was bored.

Story of my life.

I got past that stage about 12months ago. Decided to just keep plodding on with it, its not worth anything..But means alot to me.

One of those ones, you can buy a motor for cheap and have fuckall go wrong, or it will need a lot done. That said, once the probs are fixed, you shouldnt need anything else done.

If it makes you feel better, my AX hasnt had anything go wrong in 7 years apart from a knackered heater matrix.

I think most saxo owners have been in the same position, they are money pits but we can't keep away from them for some reason....

Mine goes in on Friday for a fully rebuilt engine and new clutch....costing me almost what I paid for the car

should have really got rid of mine when someone drove into the side of it
spent about £500 on paint. new doors, new bonnet, body clips, new axel was free tho ;).

currently putting some money aside for a re-con axel so that will have been £900 i spent of a car i bought for £750. but on the flip side i plan to keep it for atleast another 4 years (if it lasts that long) then i will have sort of had my moneys worth so it won't bother me as much.

however above figures don't include general maintance. i.e tryes, serviceing tax and insurance.

im going to be putting engine no. 3 in this month plus re taxing it mine hasnt cost me much but i have put shed loads of time into it its not just saxo's other cars do it to depends how they have been treated i know my vtr engine was ragged when i got it people keep telling me to scrap it but i cant afford to buy a car outright atm so better off just spending little bits here and there

was like me when i had vts last year, spent just over a grand in 11 months on the car, family nagging for me to sell it and buy a decent one.
i stripped it for parts in the end and buying myself a 106 gti :)

I don't know how so many saxp'ers end up with so many duff saxo's? Top tip, if it has an issue, fix it. Rather than leaving it until something else comes along. Mine has never been a problem.

Saxos are cheap to repair, relatively speaking. After all these repairs it will be good for a fair few years.

Your going to have to spend money on any car worth less than 3 or 4k just the way it is, the way to get round it is buy a cheap banger with a years T and T run it for a year hoping nothing big goes wrong then weigh it in when its out of mot. A years hassle free (hopefully). But when you get attached to a car or in my case, went out to find a project, you have to keep spending to justify keeping it.
Mine needs ALL the suspension replacing, engine could do with a rebuild, don't know how long the gearbox will last and all the panels need work.
But that's why I bought a ground up rebuild over the next year.

Just forked out like £400 on mine... still needs an alternator to be honest but could be worse.

We've all been through it mate.

Try to fix as much as you can yourself for knowledge and enjoy the finished product. It will never be perfect as it is an old car but you get the pros to owning an old hothatch!

My Megane was like this.... It's what happens when you buy cars that have been ragged without being serviced etc....

I've spent £900 on my audi for repairs but that was quite alot:

- New Clutch
- New Concentric Slave Cylinder
- New Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor
- New Front Discs and pads
- New Outer CV Gaitor
- New Wishbone Mount
- New Lower ball Joint
- 4x New RS4 Alloys
- 4x New Falken tyres
- Tracking done.
- NEW Gearbox mount
- New Rear Discs
- New Rear Pads
- 2 x Brand new rear calipers
- Full service
- New Cambelt done
- New Upper Engine mount

seems a new car now so it was worth it.

Mines had alot replaced.

Got to remember its a 13 year old car with 130k on the clock its going to need repairs, but then you look at how good condition its in for what its done and a B road blast, it puts a smile on your face :D

that sucks.

Still, it's not a lot you've lost so don't be disheartened - saxo's are generally cheap, bills could be way higher!

i got rid of my GT-Four for this reason, new front suspension was about 330 quid each side! that was 2 lower arms and fig 8!
