Okay maybe buying a vtr (x reg, 72,000 miles) for £300, but I also bought a vts as a project, so was thinking of making one good car out of the two, hence the 16v conversion. Will the engine be a direct fit and will the loom be the same ?

The vts is single plug, vtr is three seperate plugs

Then you will have to splice the loom together mate.

Is that a hard job ? Or is it just a case off cutting the lot off and wiring to the matching wire ?

It's simple really,
I had a 2002 3plug VTR .. I bought a 16v engine from a single plug car.
Then bought a 2002 3plug VTS loom + ECU
However, you need to change the injector loom (£5 off ebay) for a 3 plug one. Also need to change the coilpack for a 3-plug one. Also need to change the alternator. (however I'm using a singleplug alt with no problems, just snipped the plug type connector and put a O ring on.)
There is a sensor or 2 that need's swapping too, TEMP sensor and TPS IIRC.

Well I have a fully working vts so could get all the loom out of that ?

if the interior plug is the same under the drivers wing where the loom connects you will be fine to use 16v loom

Wouldn`t you be better buying a vts with a knackered engine but good bodywork, then transplant your engine into that?Making sure its a single plug of course mate.:drink:

Yeah it would I understand what your saying but its a tidy vtr and I know the lad who had it and he looked after it unlike most. And by time I find a decent one and travel I thought to myself why not take on a challenge. Plus the car is only 2 mile away and they are delivering so to me its a win win as its mot has ran out :-D

Ecu, Engine, engine loom & Interior/dash loom. For it to run and work.
Fuel return line also, unless you block it off.

Is it a major job getting the interior loom out ?

Not really. Passenger seat out, rear seats out, lift the carpet up on that side. Dash out to get the Dash loom out too. Can be done in a a couple of hours.

Okay , so is it the whole lot off wiring? Behind the dash that is. And the engine loom does that include all the fuse box etc?
