Renault are absolute bellends tbh.

Went in this morning to get the pad retaining springs and clips for the rear of the 172 expecting them to have change from a fiver.... no £28 with discount for what is basicully four springs and two "L" shaped peices of thin tin with a hole each end...

A rear caliper cost's more than a main dealer rear caliper for an m3

renault are fucking extottionate for prices!

My ex missus sheared one of the cambelt idlers off her 172 and to have that fixed, new cambelt, service and a new exhaust backbox, they tried charging 1200!!!

Got them down to a grand cash but its still fooking extortion!

bastards!

My VTR rear brakes spat out the retaining clips the other day, new set was £15 from a motor factors...BUT if you wait a few days...get this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rear-Brake-Pads-Fitting-Renault/dp/B005OY22JE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326392786&sr=8-1) from Amazon, it's a better design for them.

Welcome to the world of Renault :D

LOL!

Nah, some thing's are decently priced. But you come across the odd few and it's ridiculous. Swing's and roundabouts.

My brother was quoted 200 quid for a new van key as his was snapped, from Renault near our house..
Rang up a dealership in Stockport and they said 'yeah, that'll be 13.25 including Vat.'

Right bent over and paid Renauts prices on the "pad fitting kit"

Fitted that to find the Caliper faulty and ashumed the piston had pushed out to far and knackered the seals.

Bent over for mr eurocarparts on a reconded bosch caliper (didnt even waste my time getting a price off Renault for a caliper :homme: )

Fitted that to find the caliper still isnt working, further investiagtion found the front drivers not working either..

To sum it up the caliper didnt need to be bought and now looks like the abs unit has gone tits up loosing that system

try buying a new break pad and disk for a seat ibiza cupra... they're huuuuge 4-pots on the front

you could buy a new car for the price it costs

MiniGibbo

The calipers might be 4pots, but the brake pads for them are considerably smaller than a normal single piston caliper. So in this case, the size of the calipers dosn't matter.

Does yours run the 305mm brake discs?? Bet discs and pads can be had for about 100quid.

Yeah but this is the same company that think its alright to charge hundreds to change a bulb on a Megane.

What else did you expect?!

If its a diagonal split, it might be the master cylinder isnt feeding fluid to the abs unit, as a two port m/c normally has a diagonal split (front o/s+rear n/s, vice versa). Worth considering.

Cheers dude, changing the caliper is about as far as my knowledge goes so it'll be going to the garage to fix the problem

It's good, I'm actually on the lookout for another 172/182. I do fancy another PH1 because I prefer the gearboxes on them but they are all becoming rust buckets with fractured service history's and millions of miles on them.

Ideally I want a low mileage last of the line 172.

renault are fucking extottionate for prices!

exactly why I won't buy renault, ever. Some recent quotes (not mine since I don't own one)

Prop shaft with coupling for awd Scenic: £2800 before VAT and labour.
fuel flap, plain plastic, no paint: £50.:panic:

is it me or BMW / Audi are cheaper?

MiniGibbo
17th January 2012, 11:34
BMW are cheaper I know that for sure.

Someone said to me the other day when I was moaning that Renault sell there cars cheap then make there money on parts/servicing which tbh makes sence...

i'm not sure, all i know is they're huge:

http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt21/jc106pcsell/DSCF1019.jpg

they pretty much take up the entire 17" alloy... (inc the caliper)
they cost £164 per wheel for the pad and disk, thats from vw and before VAT

so its about £380-odd for the complete front set

Dealer prices are always extortionate regardless. I bet you would pay near enough the above for the same things for a Vauxhall Vectra direct from Vauxhall.

Ebay would get you discs and pads front and rear for 150quid.....
