View Full Version : My Cleanathon...

Simo

Ive put the VTS back together and got it back on the road today. With the raft of cleaning threads since the launch of this forum, I felt ashamed of my car(s). It'll be the white ones turn next week :P

I've decided I am going to buy a buffer so there really is no excuse to start using multi layered waxes. ;)

My car has not been waxxed for ages... I cant honestly remember when it was last waxxed. I know I didnt do it at FCS at the end of May, as it was being a dirty track slag then :P So at a guess it will have been around March. :fcuk:

As my car has been re-sprayed a couple of times, some of the paintwork isn't buffed properly... hopefully something I can try to sort with a few cutting waxes and a buffer.

Today I've washed it using a generous helping of Meguiar's Soft Wash Gel (the pink marespan smelling stuff... Mmmmmmmmm), dried it with a blade and used Meguiars quick detailer with a clay bar.

This was my first time using clay and so far I'm really impressed! :A: The panels feel sooooo smooth afterwards! :A:

Tomorrow I plan to give the car another rinse then TRY to apply all three stages of Meguiars 3-step Deep Crystal Wax. In the past I've only used stages 1 and 2 before getting bored :P

Hopefully by the end of tomorrow, I'll have a gleaming car... no doubt it will rain! :P

Here's a picture BEFORE any cleaning... not bad considering its been sat still since the end of May :P

Doesn't look too dirty.

Looking forward to seeing a nice shiney car tomorrow.

P.S. Love the blue sax-p sunstrip. Car needs some aftermarket skirts though ;)

Look forward to seeing it Simo'.

I know i'm going off subject, but how do the new brakes feel?

Simo
22nd July 2006, 23:29
Yes, I could do with some skirts to lower the sides in proportion with the front and rear... not sure which look good though? :err:

The brakes are being discussed in the brakes/suspension forum. I think they need a little more bleeding, but they are still fantastic!!!

Luke
22nd July 2006, 23:31
Just read it earlier, must be good if you were skidding.

I agree with some side skirts, not sure what either to be honest.

simo i thought you said youll never wear skirts :P

Simo
23rd July 2006, 00:08

may be a mission mate but will be well worth it. can't be arsed to do mine this weekend - on a lazy one.

i agree about the clay bar though, i was amazed how it bought up my bonnet.

try to get all 3 steps of the Meguiars in, completes the package then. remember when you started at Trax last year and gave up after taking most of the day just to do steps 1 & 2 lol

Graeme
23rd July 2006, 09:47
about time you cleaned it :P

can come clean mine later aswell if you want

Simo
23rd July 2006, 13:22
So far Ive managed to complete the clay bar and Step 1 of the 3-step process...

Step 1 is simply a paint cleaner. Step s 2 and 3 are the polish and wax.

Not looking too bad so far...

After Stage 1:

Step-2 complete...

I dont think the photos show it properly... but after step-2 the colour seems a lot richer and the panels definately shine now! :A:

Sweating like a MOFO... not sure I have the energy for step-3... D'oh!

Simo
23rd July 2006, 15:13
In my youth I was an avid Digimon fan... Pokemon were shite in comparison!!!

Lol... no, the plate reads D1 61MON - Simon. or die simon as some people like to say. THe cars tried to kill me a few times, but not succeeded yet :P

The police took a dislike to my illegally spaced plates, hence the road legal palte is now back on the rear :A:

Just typical...

Ive been cleaning the damn car since 10am this morning... aswell as the full claybar treatment yesterday evening.

And when its time to take photos, the sun goes behind some huge clouds!!!

Ive managed to take a few quick shots in weak sunlight. Not to worry... im sure it'll be covered in shite next weekend anyhow! :P

I'd like to use my wheel cleaner and glass polish tonight... but just now, my arms feel like they're dropping off!!!

Here's a couple of pics after stage 3.
