I have followed the haynes manual took the plastic housing off and it should have a thermostat there but i cant see it and dont think its there.
But the car has been running fine until recently with heaters blowing hot air. i have been driving it like this for around 6months

But now heaters dont blow hot air and the car overheats when in traffic.

Headgasket...

Was dreading this answer, so even if i put a new thermostat in im out of luck.
The heaters work but occasionally blow cold air thats more like it.
I have no gunk or anythink in the oil tho

Think most Saxo's run hot when in traffic or in standing still, know both mine have. Heaters on mine wont blow hot air atm as need a new thermostat, does the water temp gauge take a while to get to temperature (half way) ?

Yer someone has toke the thermostat out to make it last longer because water is constantly flowing around the engine, how long have you had the car? I only say headgasket because when my furio kept overheating so i toke my thermostat out to last longer.. You can try to bleed the system mate.

Ive been driving the car since August, And yh the temp guage takes awhile to get to half way but in traffic it shoots up.

Im going to buy a new thermostat now with some antifreeze if the headgasket does decide to go soon, im taking it back to the garage i bought it from and say there was no thermostat in. althought warranty ran out a while ago

I've had mine since Sept 11, had the coolant changed in December and asked my mechanic about it at the time as heaters wouldnt blow very hot, said it would just be Temp Sensor.

If you put a thermostat in it will overheat constantly...

the thermo was takin out to stop it boilin over...... but it shouldn blow any hot air :S..... i have had cars before were they were over heatin and once u take out the thermo i had no heat in the car..... if that came from the garage like them i think ye should contact tradin standards about that cuz it sound a bit dodgy to me

UPDATE: Put a thermostat in the car flushed out the system put all new water and coolant in at a ratio of about 40% coolant to 60% water. Car heated up as it should heaters blew hot air within 2mins of turning car on car gets to about 50% and sticks at 50% in traffic goes abit down when driving, engine sounds smoother. The heater vents blow out almost 70% more hot air than before.

has this sorted my problem and head gasket is fine.
No mayo gunk in oil coolant that came out before was all clean

Yh everytime i seem to drive the car the water level is going down, but i have a small leak by the thermostat that think i have just fixed. Also ive put 5ltr's of coolant and water in not the 5.5ltr so when i put the other 500ml in maybe ile have a look then.

most probs was the thermostat housing gasket gone that was causing a leak there

New thermo, housing and gasket but no sealent around it.
Maybe i will put some kind of gasket sealent around the outside of the housing

dont mean to hijack thread, but my fan on the radiator is on the wrong side, like its in the engine bay side of the rad, and its been wired up so that it goes on when i have the battery on, its had a knock at the front before so im assuming this has something to do with it, what difference will this make, iv had the car since january and had no problems with heaters, coolant, etc ?

will be fine. if fans on as soon as engines on at least you know its keeping cool. and i thought all models had fan on engine side? only the vts had twin fans on bumper side of the rad

Look's like mines been crash damaged and not recorded then lol, or so the fan can bring in more cold air from the front, god knows lol

why are vtr/s different then?

vts is 16valve so would need more cooling, vtr is only single fan, not sure what side its ment to be on tho

Did you use a new gasket around the 'stat and some hylomar/instant gasket on the housing? Technically the latter is not needed but belt and braces etc..

Stefan_Wood

Found the leak, from around the thermo housing and the pipe connecting to the thermo housing, I did use a new gasket but obv not worked, some sealent and a new hose I think should do it , where can I get them hoses made abit longer than normal ?
