I want to put my Tax disc in the Top left hand corner of my window. Ive seen a few people do it before. Ive looked on Google but there are mixed responses. It is legal right? There is nothing to state you cant.

I suppose you could put it in the middle of the left hand side if you really wanted too!

Providing it doesn't block your view it should be ok. But ANPR machines are programmed to recognise them in a certain area IIRC. Or something like that

http://smiliesftw.com/x/rlky4.gif Once you paid for your tax disc, the database gets updated and all the ANPR needs to read is your reg plate to proceed for crosschecks. These cameras can't read through glass and can't deal with the reflections, rain, snow, mud, dirt, or a combination of those.

Surely forign cars have it on the other side though.

Also if u order your tax online I think you can stick a note in display saying 'tax in post'

Are you sure? Thought it was an offence and a fine to not display the tax disc even if you have one?

As long as its not in the way you will be fine. And no, you can't put 'tax in the post' pretty sure that was from only fools and horses.

you are allowed 3 or 5 days to display the new one. you have to display a tax disc, so say yours ran in in march, you have up to 5 days to drive around with it and then show the new one.
this is for online orders and postage ect ect.

I once asked the traffics at my local cop shop what the legality was with my car being taxed but no tax disc having arrived. They said it was a grey area as technically the offence is "failure to display a tax disc", but they said that it was pretty unlikely that youd be done in the first week or so of the month as it may have been delayed in the post and theres no reason not to display it if you had bought it already.

Lol, love some of the responses in this thread.

You CAN NOT place a Tax in post note in your window as the offence is not displaying a current and valid tax disc.

ANPR Camera's can read through glass, rain, all sorts. You'd be amazed at what these cameras get to see ;)

Like someone has said, when you get your tax disc the database should be updated, I have experience of it not updating though and got pulled only for the excited copper to find a nice new tax disc on display, He even took it out to check the counterfoil to make sure it wasn't a fake!!!

As for positioning, as long it is plainly visible in the front windscreen you will be okay. I've even seen people put them above the rear view mirror!

A) true, if a traffic warden finds it, he'll do you, police arent the same...funny how it should be opposite?!

B)true in what you say...but the cam doesnt read the disc in the window..as referred to, it reads the plate and most recent database info, as youve found out yourself lol :y:

Why are people going on about ANPR camera's in relation to tax discs not being displayed in the window??

ANPR= Automatic NUMBER PLATE Recognition.

They have nothing to do with reading the actual tax disc.
