utter rubbish all gearboxes have a facility to check the oil.

on the end of the gearbox near the passengers inner wing. you will see a round headed bolt with a square middle. one upper and one lower. the lower one is to drain the oil out and the upper is to re-fill/ check the oil level.

basically you need a 5mm square headed socket, undo the upper bolt and oil should dribble out. if it doesn't then it needs topping up.

In all honesty... Dont bother checking the level. Just replace the gear oil!

Whilst you're underneath check that the Driveshaft oil seals aren't leaking.

If the oil is coming from inside the gearbox then you either need a new guide bush seal or a new crank seal. Both require gearbox to come off so you might aswell bung a new clutch in at the same time.

Ocasionally, and tbh quite rarely the gearbox end plate may leak.
