I have a minor knocking noise which sounds like the tappets on cold. Is this common for a 8v engine or is there something i should be worrying about?

It's very common on 8v engines, but it could also be your clutch release bearing, does the sound go away when you put your clucth all the way down?
If not, it'll just be a tappy engine, usually fine when theyre warmed up.

Yer, it goes away after the engine has warmed up abit. Thought it would be a common thing, is there an easy fix to this?

Depends, most 8v TU engines are naturally tappy, could be a noisy injector, tappets etc. Garages can adjust tappets but i have no idea how much they'd charge.

Well, Im a qualified mechanic, The only thing is, when i worked in a garage i worked on noisy diesel engines, Landrover/Rangerover Specialist. So im not 100% sure on some things. If there is no damage to be caused to the engine via the knocking then im happy to leave it. It soon stops anyway when the engine is warm. Probably me just worrying to much.

Last car conrod shattered inside the engine. Dont want this happening again :L

Thanks for your help mate! :)

Well it's obviously hard to say what it is from online without actually hearing it, get a video up if you can, but from it being okay when it's warmed up i'd guess tappets. My mate has a fiesta zetec 1.25 and that thing rattles liek a bitch, sounds like thtapets are dancing under the bonnet.

Now also got a rattle which sounds like the heat shield on the exhaust tbh, probably around the manifold. Good job ive got 2 weeks off soon, can take a good look at the car, clean it up and hopefully get it lowered and put some new wheels on! :)
