Mk1 sportings (very early ones) were 8v 1.6 jobbies as far as i know. You can get 90bhp puntos that are 1.2 iirc, mad italians.

Edit: the sportings are 88bhp, mk2 vtr is 98 but gearing is probably a lot shorter in the punto. Plus, they roll like barges when stock

yhh the 1.2 16v engine was nippy for what it was, ive raced stupid cars like mercs in my punto just for a laugh ooo yes i get smoked but i wasnt bothered, ive raced a c4 vtr i had him off the lights but he got bit crazy nearly smashing into me twice so i hung back

since i was in that crash i reflected on how i drove and it wasnt the best i admit that used to race for the crack speed with a car full not big or clever but since the crash i now think why the need for speed your going to get to the same place nearly same time, yes i like to mod my car but thats for me not to race others,

we all have moments where you want to put foot down, to be fair my punto did do rather well at times when i planted me foot,

i know ive gone off on 1 abit but my first car that legaly drove i loved it sounded nice with me induction kit standard rusty exhaust :P lol

and yeh m3's arent slow but i have no problem against them in my ep3... a ctr is a lot lighter and with over 300bhp will smoke pretty much most things on the road.. ok its only got 200lbft of torque but when ur revvin to 8800 rpm it doesent matter

go on youtube and have a look at JRSC type r's.. certainly aint slow... does 60 to 100 in 4 seconds...

in all seriousness chris-vtr i could sit here all night saying how my cupra beat off a 911 turbo the other week - but in reality i mearly passed him while he was in the slow lane of the M1

get some 1/4 drag proof up of you beating these cars and then you'll get a lot more respect, just my advice mate

I'll tell you what fella, Chris's Supercharged Type R at 306bhp will DICK a M3 , E36 or E46. A Type R weighs less than 1270kgs, giving him 240+bhp/ton. M3 E46 is about 216bhp/ton. I've seen E46 M3's struggle to pull on stripped N/A Type R's with my own eyes, a S/C one would walk away.

Only top end would the M3's be better, but by then it would have been long over.

You can splash the cash on any car and get an absolute shitter to beat other high performance cars for the right engine work and price. M3's come with heavy leather seats etc for a reason, theyre designed to be a luxury car with a very healthy amount of power for the fun times too...

+1. my VTS 'felt' quicker than my BMW. and arguably put as much / even more of a smile on my face - the day to day driving in the saxo though, or even worse - when i had to do a motorway journey was awful compared to the German motor.

theres pro's and cons for faster vs comfort, but to compare a tuned hatchback with a fair amount of engine work to something thats rolled out of the showroom is just plain silly.
