I know its a repost but havnt seen it for awhile.
Im in abit of a pickle as i have no income.
Ive just done my door supervisor course, passed my physical and 95% sure ive passed the exams too...
ive got to wait around 3 weeks to find out, then find £220 and appliy for my license, my license can take up to 3 months to come, so i need to find some form of income until then.
how many of you on here dont have an income? what do you do with your spare time? im soo bored during the days.
Does anyone know of any jobs going in or around northampton? Also does anyone know what apprenticeships are the best pay? and where any are goimh? Ive gave my CV into loads of places, fed up of emailing people and getting no repliy.

Get on the phone and ring people up. It's not hard to find a job unless you're just being picky, just take owt that pays a wage at the end of the day it's only for 3 months.

I can't stand holidays / doing nothing with my day. Get some smart clothes on and go and ask if anybody is hiring. If you've handed that many CV's in and heard nothing it suggests a problem with the CV or they didn't like the look of you.

Haha thats prob the problem! My cv seems pretty decent.. im not being fussy at all, its not going to be for long so id happily work anywhere, signed up with so many agencies just dont seem to ever hear anything. Most places i hand my cv in just say " we havnt got anything at the moment but we will keep it for the future " needless to say it more than likely gets chucked in the bin as soon as my backs turned!

Do you ever phone them for a follow up?
When ever I've applied for a job I ring them a week later to see what they were doing with my application.
It lets them see that you're keen and not just handing out your CV to every shop you enter. Your CV will then be dug out and looked at again.
I have never applied for a job and heard nothing.

There's roughly 300 a day ranging from all sorts. You can't be picky.

Have signed up and uploaded my cv, problem now im back at college 2days a week im not flexible with my hours. Also sales work is not a option
holdawayt
25th January 2012, 14:29
Why isn't sales an option?
I worked 2 jobs around uni. Just tell them in the interview / cover letter that you won't be available 2 days a week due to education. If you're employable, they'll work around it.

Tom.
That's what I have thought about my CV.
Put it in for about 6 jobs lately..1 has got back to me.
Got a free CV Review and they gave me 16/30.
Also, someone said above 'take anything, even warehouse / factory work'...that's great, that is where my experience lies, but warehouse / distribution jobs are very scarce and are snapped up very quickly, in my area anyway..I have been up the Ind.Estate my end, up to DHL, Yodel, DPD, UK Mail etc..very quiet atm.

Done sales work experience and i would rather no job than sales tbh, I have wrote on the cover letters that i am in education 2days a week but none get back to me, its not like i have bad grades either
14 GCSE = A*-C's
Btec National Diploma in public services = Pass,Pass,Merit
Health & Safety
First Aid
Drivers license
My CV is also good but just no one wants me, but when i pass this college course and pass my ACS ile be Gas Safe so money should be rolling in, but thats in june/july :(

Just had a quick chat to my director for his opinion.
He said that when somebody hands in a CV in recent times, he'll take a quick glance at the qualifications then study the work experience part thoroughly.
His reasoning being that just because somebody has been through college and uni, it doesn't mean they know a thing about the working world and would much rather hire somebody with a decent portfolio of work.
Sort of makes me wish I hadn't gone to uni now! But I have to agree. The amount of friends who graduated last year and still haven't got a job is staggering. It's as if they expect companies to come flocking to them just because they've got a degree.
Stefan_Wood
25th January 2012, 14:51
Yh i know if i had more work experience i would surely be in a job now, just need that one employer to give me a chance.
Its not what you know its who you know

Although I agree to an extent (I currently work for my Uncle), my previous jobs have all been down to experience, didn't know anybody there previously.
Anyway - Once you're Gas safe you'll be much more employable. We're an Air conditioning manufacturer in West Bromwitch and our gas pipework commisioning engineers are on a ridiculous wage. They're earning more than the engineers in the office that design the bloody units put it that way lol.
Stefan_Wood
25th January 2012, 14:59
Just have to wait and hopefully something pop's up.
Yh the wage of gas is what brought me to it and working for myself or for someone doing something i enjoy would make me enjoy my job.

Sure is mate! Thats what im trying to do.. get a job in secruity then id like to do my 7.5 tonne license, and my forklift license just to get a few things under my belt, so in the future im not just limited to one job! Its mad how expensive licenses/ training is though. Pissed me off aswell, job centre wouldnt help pay or even pay towards my door supervisor course, or my license. Which i just thought was abit wrong - considering people can just sign up and be with them for months and months, and get grants for PPE then they spend that on a holiday. :/

You obv wasnt looking into secruity... close protection is around 2 grand for the course, depending on where you go. All license's are the same fee as far as i know. ( £220 )

Really? how much is a forklift license? around 500 quid? ( total guess ) so they will pay for them and not my secruity course? what a loada bollox, if its true.
Although if they are paying for the forklift training, i might go sign on just to get that lol

Depends on what forklift it is. normal, telehandler, twisty thing, weight limit etc etc
But the standard forklift iirc is a weekcoarse at nearly £1000.

Hahaha! both times i went into job centre about some funding for my security course, they gave me aload of baffle about how they dont have enough money to do this now...
Got plenty of mates on the doll and one of them got a letter yest stating this..
Every week he gets £53...
as of april 2012, it will go up to £57..
So if they havnt got the money to pay for my course why are they giving thousands ands thousands of pounds away to pepople who really dont need it?
Im not having ago at people who claim JSA, but really pisses me off when people could work who claim it, when i was working i was allways moaning about tax, and how people claimed it when they didnt need to, hint why im not claiming it now even though i technically could.
Also what fukks me off, ive prob popped into job centre about 6 times to go on their machines to search for a job, EVERY time ive been theres piss heads that roll in with there " special brew " or leave there drink outside, id say a good 80% of the people at my local job centre are crack heads, allthough understandably it is, wellingbrough.

Not always the case, depends how desperate a company is for an apprentice, I started mine in june, because they were so desperate!!
Not only that but when your in college one day a week you work at your own pace, not as a class if that makes sence, there were people starting all through the year when I was there :y:
