Got linked to this today and think it's a great idea.

Article: http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyId=25088

basic idea is to build something similar to the 'ring in the welsh hills.... I would LOVE that. And the question that the article is about is does the ring have to be in germany to be such a big hit, or would one work else where? If wales even brought in half the visitors that the ring has it would boost the economy etc.

Thoughts?

It would never happen. Too much red tape in this Kingdom

I think that's a great idea, not just from a petrolhead point of view, but an economic point of view!

I found Welsh roads to be much better quality than English roads pot hole wise

I would go if they made it!

If they make it great and it would potential be good for that area. As said though ^^^, lots and lots of Red tape to go through and it would be several years at best before they could start work.

Theres so many mountains to choose from to build a track in wales
Personally mid wales is where the best roads are if they planted a track there and built a motorway straight to it, I can see it being a big success

You clearly haven't been to where I live although saying that I haven't been to England very often.

People travel from all over the world to hit the ring
If the welsh version was just as epic the location wouldnt mean anything

As someone else said, Nur is such a big draw because it has hostory and is so central most people in europe can easily drive to it. Welsh Nur wouldnt get half the visitors; would take forever to build; would never be allowed by green campaigners; and who would pay for it?

Awesome idea but that's all it'll be an idea..

This would be awesome if they did it!

It would be so much cheaper and quicker to get to and have a nice blast around the track!
Would take some time getting it all finished and ready though!

It would never happen but also noticed they quoted a budget of 200mil

I would guess that's far too little!

That track in ebbw vale I heard they had a private investment of 220million ages ago

Unfortunately it'll never happen.

1. Who's going to pay for it?
2. I'd bet that most of that land is green belt land - Good luck with that.
3. Part of the appeal is the history of the place.

Awesome idea IMO, would be great if they can build it cheap and make it a cost effective business

Why not just go to any regular trackday? the nurburgring is great as it was built back when nobody cared, and so its a completely different challenge, and has history and a reputation to boot.

I would absolutely love it to happen but can't see it tbh... :n: as craig said red tape and the fact it's 200 mil before they even start....

we can all dream though eh? ;)

As has been said, it'll NEVER happen. And even on the off chance it did, it'll never match the atmosphere, or the magic of the real place.

Would be amazing tbh - Can imagine it would bring in a lot of money and help with the general economy as well with people coming over to go on it
